Russia claims missile attack on Ukrainian port of Odesa hit only military targets: Live updates

Russian officials Sunday insisted the country's missile airstrike on the Ukraine port of Odesa this weekend – which came just hours after the two countries signed identical agreements with the U.N. to allow grain exports to resume – hit only military targets. Blockage of the port has created a global food crisis. Saturday's strike was a "spit in the face" to Turkey and the United Nations, which brokered the agreements, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said. The Ukrainian military said Saturday that Moscow had attacked the port with four cruise missiles, two of which had been shot down. Command spokeswoman Nataliya Humenyuk said no grain storage facilities were hit in Odesa, but the two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles hit the port’s infrastructure and Ukrainian air defenses brought down two others, the Ukrainian military’s Southern Command said.

Video Shows Ukraine Blowing Up 3 Russian Tanks in Series of Strikes

Aseries of strikes by Ukraine took out three of Russia's T-72 tanks, a radar station and other equipment, the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Wednesday. The TDF shared a video on Twitter that first pinpointed the various targets of the strikes from above. The video briefly circles each spot in red, but most of the equipment appears to be concealed among trees and other foliage.

A series of strikes by Ukraine took out three of Russia’s T-72 tanks, a radar station and other equipment, the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Wednesday. Above, a plume of smoke is seen rising into the air after one of the strikes.

I think this is about as good as it gets for the Ukraine and then things slowly go down hill for them in the second half of the fourth quarter. The reason is the west will soon run out of stocks of equipment to send them. Biden has done little if anything to meaningfully increase production rates nor has any NATO country other than France and France just barely increased production. By the end of the fourth quarter we won be able to give them any more because we won't have any more to give.

How long can the Ukraine coast on what they already have? I guess we will see but it doesn't look good. To compare Russia has done full war time mobilization of arms factories in order to greatly ramp up production. They will have a lot of supply chain problems due to sanctions but they are months ahead in the process of solve those while the west really hasn't even started yet. Our politicians seem not to know or care about how low stocks are getting. If they do they certainly haven't bothered to do anything about it.

I suspect next month Ukraine will launch a big offensive in the Kherson area which will only be half successful but cost them a lot of men and equipment. A lot of their forces there are only half trained but Russia's are also poorly trained. By the end of the year I doubt Ukraine will have the ability to launch offensives due to supply constraints. So they have to some how make big gains by then or get used to facing Russia without enough weapons and ammo which means Russia will win.

Russia to cut Nord Stream 1 gas to 20% of capacity, escalating energy tensions over Ukraine war

The European Union has accused Russia of resorting to energy blackmail, while the Kremlin says the Gazprom disruption has been caused by maintenance issues.

Russia's Gazprom said on Monday it was halting another turbine in the Nord Stream 1 poorly to Germay and that flows of gas would fall to the equivalent of just one fifth of normal capacity. The new blow to supply comes at a moment of high tension as Russia and the West exchange economic blows in response to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. The European Union has accused Russia of resorting to energy blackmail, while the Kremlin says the gas disruption has been caused by maintenance issues and the effect of Western sanctions. Politicians in Europe have repeatedly warned that Russia could cut off gas flows this winter, a step that would thrust Germany into recession and lead to soaring prices for consumers already grappling with higher prices for food and energy. Germany was forced last week to bail out Uniper, its biggest company importing gas from Russia.

Russia says it wants to end Ukraine's `unacceptable regime'

Russia’s top diplomat said Moscow’s overarching goal in Ukraine is to free its people from its “unacceptable regime,” expressing the Kremlin’s war aims in some of the bluntest terms yet as its forces pummel the country with artillery barrages and airstrikes. The remark from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov comes amid Ukraine’s efforts to resume grain exports from its Black Sea ports —something that would help ease global food shortages — under a new deal tested by a Russian strike on Odesa over the weekend. Last week, Russia and Ukraine signed agreements aimed at clearing the way for the shipment of millions of tons of desperately needed Ukrainian grain, as well as the export of Russian grain and fertilizer.Ukraine's deputy infrastructure minister, Yury Vaskov, said the first shipment of grain is planned for this week.

Gas prices soar as Russia cuts German supply

European gas prices rose almost 2%, trading close to the record high set after Russia invaded Ukraine. Critics accuse the Russian government of using gas as a political weapon. Russia has been cutting flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany, with it now operating at less than a fifth of its normal capacity.
Before the Ukraine War, Germany imported over half of its gas from Russia and most of it came through Nord Stream 1- with the rest coming from land-based pipelines.
