I think this is about as good as it gets for the Ukraine and then things slowly go down hill for them in the second half of the fourth quarter. The reason is the west will soon run out of stocks of equipment to send them. Biden has done little if anything to meaningfully increase production rates nor has any NATO country other than France and France just barely increased production. By the end of the fourth quarter we won be able to give them any more because we won't have any more to give.

How long can the Ukraine coast on what they already have? I guess we will see but it doesn't look good. To compare Russia has done full war time mobilization of arms factories in order to greatly ramp up production. They will have a lot of supply chain problems due to sanctions but they are months ahead in the process of solve those while the west really hasn't even started yet. Our politicians seem not to know or care about how low stocks are getting. If they do they certainly haven't bothered to do anything about it.

I suspect next month Ukraine will launch a big offensive in the Kherson area which will only be half successful but cost them a lot of men and equipment. A lot of their forces there are only half trained but Russia's are also poorly trained. By the end of the year I doubt Ukraine will have the ability to launch offensives due to supply constraints. So they have to some how make big gains by then or get used to facing Russia without enough weapons and ammo which means Russia will win.

School in east Ukraine hit by Russian strike, bodies found

Ukrainian emergency workers recovered three bodies from a school hit by a Russian strike in the east of the country, officials said Friday, as attacks continued in several parts of the nation. The reported casualties follow a barrage Thursday on a densely populated area of Ukraine's second largest city, Kharkiv, that killed at least three people and wounded 23 others. In a rare sign of light, the signing was expected Friday of an accord that would allow Ukraine to resume its shipments of grain across the Black Sea and Russia to export grain and fertilizers. Beyond that, however, there was no indication of relief from the grinding war. Russia this week has reiterated its plans to seize territories beyond eastern Ukraine, where the Russian military has spent months trying to conquer the Donbas region. The Ukrainian president’s office said that in Kramatorsk, in Donetsk province, Russian shelling destroyed a school and damaged 85 residential buildings.

US warns: Russia planning to annex additional Ukrainian territory

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says Russia laying the groundwork to annex Ukrainian territory, in a similar manner to the 2014 annexation of Crimea.

The United States on Tuesday accused Russia of moving ahead with plans to annex additional Ukrainian territory. "Russia is laying the groundwork to annex Ukrainian territory that it controls in direct violation of Ukraine's sovereignty," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, according to the AFP news agency. "Russia is beginning to roll out a version of what you could call an annexation playbook, very similar to the one we saw in 2014," when it invaded and eventually annexed Crimea, Kirby said. "Already, Russia is installing illegitimate proxy officials in the areas of Ukraine that are under its control," he added. Kirby also said Russia had plans to organize "sham referenda" in the areas it has seized, possibly as early as September. "Annexation by force will be a gross violation of the UN Charter and we will not allow it to go unchallenged or unpunished," he said, adding was "exposing" the Russian plans "so the world knows that any purported annexation is premeditated, illegal and illegitimate."

Ukraine: First Russian prison sentence for anti-war remarks, $400M more in weapons to Ukraine

A municipal lawmaker in Moscow was sentenced to seven years in prison for remarks spurning Russia's war in Ukraine. Alexei Gorinov, 60, was found guilty of spreading "knowingly false information" about the Russian military, a charge that carries up to 15 years in prison. That law was passed just one week after Russia invaded Ukraine and has been described by the United Nation's human rights office as "an alarming move by the government to gag and blindfold an entire population." Gorinov is the first elected Russian official to face charges under the law and will be the first person to serve time under a guilty verdict.

Aseries of strikes by Ukraine took out three of Russia's T-72 tanks, a radar station and other equipment, the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Wednesday. The TDF shared a video on Twitter that first pinpointed the various targets of the strikes from above. The video briefly circles each spot in red, but most of the equipment appears to be concealed among trees and other foliage.

Putin 'Spit in the Face' of UN by Striking Port After Grain Deal: Ukraine

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin "spit" in the face of the United Nations and Turkey after Russia was accused of striking a Ukrainian port in Odessa with missiles. The reported strike came hours after Russia and Ukraine had reached a deal, which the U.N. and Turkey had helped broker, to unblock ports in the Black Sea in order to free tens of millions of tons of Ukrainian grain. "The Russian missile (strike) is (Russian President) Vladimir Putin's spit in the face of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish President Recep (Tayyip) Erdogan, who made enormous efforts to reach the agreement," said Ukraine Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko on Saturday, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP). "If the reached agreement is not fulfilled, Russia will bear full responsibility for deepening the global food crisis."
