US Accuses Russia of Forcibly Deporting Ukrainians​

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accused Russia of forcibly deporting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians from areas it controls in the east and south of the country to Russia. Blinken said an estimated 900,000 to 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens, including 260,000 children, have been interrogated, detained, and deported from their homes to Russia, including to isolated areas in the Far East, through filtration operations. In a statement on July 13, Blinken called on Russia to stop these operations, which he said violate the Geneva Conventions.

Russia-Ukraine war: Turkey announces deal with Ukraine, Russia and UN aimed at resuming grain exports​

• A breakthrough deal to resume exporting Ukrainian grain has been announced with the establishment of a coordination and monitoring centre in Istanbul. Turkey’s defence minister Hulusi Akar said Ankara will ensure the safety of shipments in transit and the parties will jointly check grain cargoes in ports after officials from Ukraine, Russia, United Nations and Turkey met for talks in Istanbul on Wednesday. UN chief Antonio Guterres described the talks as a “critical step forward” but said more work was needed before a deal is set to be signed next week.
• A traffic jam of more than130 cargo ships loaded with Ukrainian grain is waiting in the Black Sea to pass into the Danube. The ships are waiting to access exit routes through the Sulina and Bystre estuary canals to reach a series of ports and terminals in Romania from where the grain can be transported on around the world
• Russian and proxy forces have reportedly entered the town of Siversk in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, according to Russian media reports. State news agency Tass quoted Vitaly Kiselyov, an official from the self-appointed Luhansk People’s Republic, as saying the town could fall within a couple of days, but it was not clear what that claim was based on.
• Ukraine’s foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has ruled out ceding territory to Russia as part of any ceasefire deal. In a briefing, Kuleba said no peace talks were under way between Moscow and Kyiv “because of Russia’s position and its continued aggression against our country”.

Russia Will Go All Way to Warsaw if U.S. Arms Ukraine More, State TV Says​

Russian state TV host Olga Skabeyeva has suggested that U.S. military support for Ukraine could see the war spill over into a conflict between Russia and NATO. During a broadcast of 60 Minutes on Tuesday, Skabeyeva gave her take on the shifting aims of Vladimir Putin since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24. "Initially we just planning to liberate only those who live in Donbass from the yoke of the Nazis," she said on Russia's Channel-1, referring to one of the Kremlin's justifications of the war which has been dismissed internationally. She then went on to criticize the latest deliveries of Western weapons to Ukraine. Last month, the U.S. started sending Ukraine the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) which Kyiv says have already made a difference on the battlefield.The weapons can hit targets at a greater range than the M777 howitzers, which the U.S. has also given Kyiv. Pro-Kremlin figures have expressed their concern at the weapon systems which have reportedly caused significant losses of troops and equipment, especially as the U.S. has pledged even more military support for.

Forty-five nations pledge to coordinate evidence of war crimes in Ukraine​

The United States and more than 40 other countries agreed on Thursday to coordinate investigations into suspected war crimes in Ukraine, shortly after what Kyiv said was a Russian missile strike that killed civilians far from front lines. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told the international conference that Russian missiles had struck two community centres in the west of Ukraine, killing 20 people, including three children, and wounding many more. Russia has repeatedly denied involvement in war crimes and deliberately targeting civilians since it invaded Ukraine in February. It says it launched a "special military operation" to protect Russian speakers and root out dangerous nationalists. Ukraine says Moscow is waging an unprovoked war of conquest. On Thursday, 45 countries at the conference in The Hague - headquarters of the International Criminal Court (ICC) - signed a political declaration to work together on investigations into war crimes in Ukraine.

Warning sirens sound in Ukraine's capital as Russia steps up bombardment​

Air raid sirens sounded across Kyiv on Saturday as Russia stepped up long-range bombardment of Ukrainian cities that has killed at least 34 people in the last three days and wounded scores. Late on Friday, Russian missiles hit the central city of Dnipro, killing three people and wounding 15, regional Governor Valentyn Reznychenko said on Telegram. Rockets hit an industrial plant and a street next to it, he said. Footage on social media showed thick black smoke rising from the buildings and burning cars. Eight people were killed and 13 injured in a string of shellings in 10 locations in the eastern region of Donetsk, Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said in a television interview.

Zelensky fires top officials over staffers' 'collaboration' with Russia​

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed two important figures in his government, questioning their leadership qualities and accusing many of their subordinates of treason and collaborating with Russia." US warns: Russia planning to annex additional Ukrainian territory​

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says Russia laying the groundwork to annex Ukrainian territory, in a similar manner to the 2014 annexation of Crimea.​

The United States on Tuesday accused Russia of moving ahead with plans to annex additional Ukrainian territory. "Russia is laying the groundwork to annex Ukrainian territory that it controls in direct violation of Ukraine's sovereignty," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, according to the AFP news agency. "Russia is beginning to roll out a version of what you could call an annexation playbook, very similar to the one we saw in 2014," when it invaded and eventually annexed Crimea, Kirby said. "Already, Russia is installing illegitimate proxy officials in the areas of Ukraine that are under its control," he added. Kirby also said Russia had plans to organize "sham referenda" in the areas it has seized, possibly as early as September. "Annexation by force will be a gross violation of the UN Charter and we will not allow it to go unchallenged or unpunished," he said, adding was "exposing" the Russian plans "so the world knows that any purported annexation is premeditated, illegal and illegitimate."
