BBCAmerica has been pushing it big time, to the point of putting little animated commercials for it at the bottom of the screen while other shows are being aired. They were showing it after Murphy's Law on their Monday night mysteries, and it was really disconcerting when the animation would break in during the middle of a show as dark as Murphy's Law.

From what I've seen, the show takes place in casinos in Blackpool, and characters break into song and dance in the middle of the drama, usually lip synching things like "The Boy with the Thorn in His Side" and "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me."

Very silly.

I think David Tennant is in it, probably still not a good reason to watch though, I avoided it like the plauge based on the trailers alone.

Speaking of trailers, your average peak time BBC program probably has more trailers before the next program than the equivilent ITV program has adverts.

The BBCs insistance on forcing us to pay a licence fee rather than show adverts because adverts would be intrusive grows more and more idiotic.

^Indeed, they should really keep trailers to a total minimum. Allthough it's good we do pay licence fees because it keeps it out of the hands of the goverment.

But do you guys get commercials for another show on the bottom 1/3 of your screen during the show you're watching?

Because that's what BBCAmerica has started doing, and it's really pissing me off.

We only get the screen squashed during the closing credits on american shows, and usually have someone else talking over the top of that.

I cant remember the last time it was possible to actually read the credits on an american import show.

It's been like that here for more than a decade. It started with just talking over the credits, and then we moved to the squashed credits.

That's annoying. But this actually occupies 1/3 of the picture, and it covers it up--it's not squashed to fit the remaining 2/3 of the screen.

Nothing like having a little Viva Blackpool commercial with animated fireworks on the screen while trying to watch a character from another show react emotionally to finding a colleague dead on the floor of his flat.

Is there no group you can complain to?

The other annoying thing on the commercial channels is sponsorship, the little bits before the program, and before the adverts drive you mad after a while.

Not really. It's other BBCAmerica programs that are being advertised, so it's all in-house. It's never been commercials for products or anything.

There have been some complaints on the BBCAmerica website forum, but it would take a boycott or something to actually get them to stop.

And they have a monopoly on most of these programs, since the BBC has stopped selling a lot of their stuff to PBS in favor of airing them on their own subsidiary. Most of this stuff will never make it to R1 DVD, either.

BBC monopolies are nothing new, appart from paying an increased licence fee to pay for their new digital channels you then have to pay to get the digital channels.

That is fucking dispicable. The homeless rates in Liverpool and we are spending 60 fucking grand on a piece of crap like this? Total bloody liberty. The stupid bitch who made it should sit on that pole and swivel on it through December and January for that fucking money.

You know, the day England turns into paradise then I'm all for spending money on stupid pointless crap that upper class yobo's think has some deep meaning. Until then they should be putting this money to use for the homeless, for old people who freeze to death in their armchairs because they can't afford to put the heating on.

It makes me so fucking angry.

I'm just going to continue getting annoyed. This has hit a nerve and I am most unimpressed. The whole idea of the Turner lot being some sort of sub counter culture and then getting state funding on the backs of pensioners TV licences is just insane. I hope somebody tears it down during a good old fashioned football riot.
