Where is the Random Thread of Randomness stuff that doesn't belong in other threads thread?

If you're Muslim and live in the Western Hemisphere--or some similarly remote place--you can pretty much face any direction to pray towards Mecca, because it's all basically the same distance. This message brought to you because for various reasons I have a Muslim prayer rug and decided to place it with proper orientation. The Website I used said to face it basically *North*. If you ever asked me which way the Middle East was from Kentucky, North is about the last direction I'd have pointed.

You could scam your way into an arts grant with that lol

If only.

Dell/Firefox/Windows 11 just had a stroke. I don't use a mouse, just the touchscreen and the touchpad. Monkeying about here and the system apparently froze. CTRL+ALT+DEL and things seemed to be working again so I hit "Cancel" and when I came back I didn't have a mouse pointer. Rebooted with no luck. Eventually went and got a wireless mouse from a different computer and that works. The stupid virtual touchpad that you turn on with the icon in the toolbar works. But the physical touchpad does not work. FN+F5 does nothing--although every other function key I tested does what it's supposed to do. None of the tutorials or tips are any help because they tell me to open Devices and Bluetooth (or whatever it was) and navigate to "Touchpad" but there is no "Touchpad" in Devices and Bluetooth--or ANYWHERE in the Control Panel. I hate 2026 so much.

(Dell had some troubleshooting that involved restarting, hitting F12, getting into a diagnostic mode, etc, but I'm just trying to unwind and destress so instead I just plugged a wireless mouse back in.)

I am glad that over the last few months I've had these reconnections with people from earlier life events that I haven't talked to in decades, really. It's pretty cool and soothing in a way. It wasn't so much about arguments or anything like that, just life drift, and it's good to talk to them again now that we're older and maybe have more life under our belts. We collectively haven't changed too much at all, but there is some hurt and pain there individually. But we're still here for each other regardless.

This is how you know who your friends are.

So yeah, it works fine when the computer is running in the special boot mode and the diagnostic comes back as "no errors", and then when it reboots the touchpad stops working again. Haven't gone back into Device Manager to see if the one device still has a "...Stopped working...Error Code 10..." exclamation point icon or not. I'm just going to get an abacus.

Did Monet ever do wookies?

1) I don't know how long I wanted a laptop with a touchscreen, but finally getting one, I quickly learned you need the touchpad too for certain things--and it can still be a pain in the ass. Being forced to add a mouse made me realize how stupid and unnecessary a touchscreen is--you can do everything with a mouse with less effort and frustration. Finally, I'll say the only mouseless option that worked (IMO) were the TrackPoints on the original IBM ThinkPads. If you were a touch-typist your index finger is right where the little joystick was and your thumbs were right over the mouse buttons. Interestingly, I got a later laptop with the trackpoint style controller and it was garbage for some reason.

2) In the early 2000s I took endless pleasure with Adele computer jokes: "I'm a Mac." "And I'm Adele." ... "Dude, you're gettin' Adele!" So satisfying.

Hate touchpads. Been loving using my wireless mouse for years on my Adele laptop.
