Is this real life?
I alternated between hating and loving this episode from scene to scene. Sometimes from line to line.
As already covered, the idea that people magically become logical (and rude) by having Vulcan dna completely misunderstands the concept of the species, and undermines Spock’s struggle. Which is especially confusing since so many lines in the episode do actually acknowledge all these things. It’s a very muddled story.
Meanwhile, I thought the Spock/La’an fight/dance scene was absolutely beautiful. Nice to casually see cetacean ops as well.
I wish Chapel had actually explained how her experience of being Vulcan helped her understand Spock more. Of course we can make our own assumptions, but to me it was a real missed opportunity for us to understand him more, and have this episode actually contribute something to the canon rather than trampling all over it. Presumably all of the characters would’ve had new insight into why he is the way he is, but we’ll never know...
