Why do they talk like that.

Why does New Star Trek talk like that.

If I could past some of the quip, I might enjoy some of this.

Maybe I could go binge watch something quippy to attune my brain.

The Captain catchphrase was never a thing and they should stop it at once. Picard was known among his crew for "make it so" (like when Riker took the piss on Cpt. Picard Day), but that was it.

Pike's "thing he says," in The Cage was...

wait for it...

"Engage."

Not, "Hit it" or "Punch it", because he isn't Han fucking Solo.

In fact, that and calling the XO, "Number One" were recycled from Pike to Picard.
 
The Spock line made me laugh because the delivery was so good, but I did wonder afterwards if it was something Spock would logically say. Maybe it's a prequel to 'Spock's Brain' where they steal half his brain.

it's going to something like a plot where Chapel is teasing him and trying to get him to relate to the crew on a more personal level, show some personality, and it'll be funny. it's fine.
 
I have very little interest in any Trek going forward. Normally I'd anticipate a season premiere even if I was going in with a negative bias. Now, this might be the first time I take or leave it. Not intentionally - I just might end up forgetting it's on.

Honestly, it's quite refreshing. My best hope is a total lack of interest means no expectations, meaning if it's good, it might be a positive experience and I actually end up enjoying a season of Trek for the first time in I hate to count however many years ...
