Seeking: One Business Mentor or Two!

I need a mentor!

I am learning things the hard way and it sucks. : (

I just need to have an inbox, because my boss will set stuff on or near my desk and expect that I will notice it and take action. Well I have failed to take action and it annoys me to have non-verbal cues. (growing up in an alcoholic home you may understand (but I won't tell my boss that)) I gave up on non-verbal communication with my family, so to have it at work now-ugh.

But see, I don't have an "inbox" because my desk is actually a counter. So I just need to re-work some things.

But really I feel I could use a mentor from the business world that could help me out in situations such as this.

Will the counter fit an Inbox or maybe a hanging Inbox on an adjacent wall? You could pick one up at an office supply store or a Kmart/Walmart for a few bucks.

Or would that ruffle some feathers? Maybe it will be seen postively as showing initiative to stay organized...
