TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- Japanese police say a zookeeper has been mauled to death by a male tiger while cleaning its cage. Toshiomi Ootaguro, a police official in Kyoto, western Japan, said 40-year-old Atsushi Ito died Saturday after the attack. When Ito was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was already in cardiac arrest.

The 150-kilogram (330-pound) tiger bit him on the neck and face, Ootaguro said. Ito, who lay bleeding in the cage, was discovered by a zoo visitor.

After the fatal accident, the Kyoto City Zoo was closed
