NBA, NHL, MLB unveil ad on responsible sports betting​


The NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball have joined forces to produce a 30-second ad promoting responsible sports betting. The "Never Know What's Next" commercial unveiled Tuesday is a coordination of the three leagues, sportsbook operators DraftKings, Fanatics, PENN Entertainment and the National Council on Problem Gambling. "With more fans than ever having the opportunity to legally bet in their home states, it is imperative that we work with our media and sportsbook partners, as well as with our friends at the NBA and MLB, to inform and emphasize the risks and encourage the importance of setting limits and betting responsibly, especially among our growing fanbase in the younger demographic," NHL chief business officer Keith Wachtel said.

LeBron James takes NBA all-time minutes led in career -worst loss
James became the league's all-time leader in minutes played during the Los Angeles Lakers' 138-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. Taking into account both regular-season and postseason games, James has now played 66,319 minutes in his career, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's total of 66,297 minutes.

Police looking into allegations against Thunders; Josh GIddey
Giddey, 21, has declined to comment about the allegations. Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault has referred to the allegations as a "personal matter" and declined further comment other than saying the organization made the decision for Giddey to continue playing based on the facts the Thunder have.
 

Suns' Kevin Durant passes Moses Malone, now 10th all-time scorer​


Kevin Durant sometimes spends idle time surfing YouTube, checking out old clips of NBA greats. At 35, he continues to earn his spot among them. Durant moved into 10th place on the NBA's career scoring list Friday night, passing Moses Malone in the second quarter of the Phoenix Suns' 119-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Durant hit the mark by driving the baseline for two points with 50.3 seconds left before halftime. He needed 17 points to pass Malone coming into the game, the 1,003rd of his career. Durant finished with 30 points but shot 8-of-25 from the field, including 0-for-10 in the second half, as he pushed his career total to 27,423. Malone had 27,409 in the NBA after starting his professional career with two seasons in the ABA. He has been in the NBA for 17 seasons, missing a full year with an Achilles injury, and has averaged more than 27 points per game. LeBron James tops the scoring list with 39,124 points and is the only other active player in the top 25. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) is second, followed by Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Dirk Nowitzki (31,560), Wilt Chamberlain (31,419), Shaquille O'Neal (28,596) and Carmelo Anthony (28,289). Durant is 13th on the combined NBA/ABA list, with former ABA stars Julius Erving eighth (30,026), Malone ninth (29,580) and Dan Issel 12th (27,482).

Gloria Allred representing family involved with Josh Giddey case​


Attorney Gloria Allred has confirmed that she is representing the family of the girl with whom Oklahoma City Thunders guard Losh Giddey is alleged to have had an improper relationship. Allred has been a famous advocate for women in cases against powerful men and celebrities for decades. She did not elaborate in an email response, saying: "We have no comment."

Giddey is averaging 12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for an Oklahoma City team that is off to a 13-6 start, second-best in the Western Conference. He has started all four games since the allegations were made but played a season-low 17 minutes in Saturday's win at Dallas.

Giddey was the No. 6 pick in the 2021 draft and was named to the All-Rookie second team during the 2021-22 season. Last season, he averaged 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists. At this year's FIBA Basketball World Cup, he averaged a team-high 19.4 points for an Australia team that went 3-2.

Lakers' switch from black uniforms mandated by NBA, source says​

It turns out the Los Angeles Lakers won't be back in black. The Lakers clinched a trip to Las Vegas and a spot in the semifinals of the NBA's inaugural in-season tournament with a 106-103 win over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday while wearing their black alternative "city edition" uniforms. The jersey-set aesthetic has been a hit with the players, and L.A. is undefeated in the black uniforms so far, all during in-season tournament play. The Lakers went 3-0 in two group-play games against the Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz, plus the quarterfinal win over the Suns, donning the dark colors. While the Lakers players would prefer to continue to wear their black ensemble against the New Orleans Pelicans in the semifinals, sources told ESPN, the NBA has other plans. The NBA is preventing the Lakers from wearing their black uniforms because of concerns over the visual contrast between the jerseys and the design of the specialized in-season court the semifinals will be played on at T-Mobile Arena, a source with knowledge of the subject told ESPN.
