Mission: Impossible movies

I want to smell dark matter
There's a lot of them and they'll never end until Tom Cruise drives his motorbike into the moon; here's a thread.

This really makes it look like Rebecca Ferguson dies halfway through and is replaced by Hayley Atwell, but that could be what they want you to think!

I don't think I've watched any of them start to finish.

I've seen the second one a few times, always like a bit of John Woo.

I watched them all back when we were locked down for four months during the pandemic.

It doesn't come out for a whole year.

Because it was for CinemaCon or something anyway here's the real trailer a year later.

Bump for anyone who has seen Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One but can't find this thread.

I finally watched M:I - DR P1. The movie is entertaining in many of the ways these movies are: there's some great action, Tom Cruise runs around a lot and jumps off things, there's fun supporting characters (the highlight maybe being Pom Klementieff as a crazy hot assassin) and cool spy bits with faces being pulled off. What isn't so good is the villain known as THE ENTITY. It's an evil A.I. (of course!) and I don't think the movie does a good job establishing why it's such a threat. We get like a five minute exposition scene about it at the start and it feels like it would have been better to show what THE ENTITY is all about first. The human villain, while entertaining, is pretty underwritten too: he's just a guy who shows up every 30 years to kill one of Ethan's girlfriends? SPEAKING OF (spoilers)...

So yeah this is pretty much what happens. And I like Hayley Atwell a lot but why can't we have both? Is there only allowed to be one woman on the team at a time? The part where the villain is like "I'll kill someone you care about!" and it's a choice between Rebecca and Hayley doesn't make much sense as Ethan barely knows Hayley's character at that point. Would have made more sense for him to go after Simon Pegg or Ving Rhames.

But yeah it's still entertaining.

I've had it taped for a month but finding it hard to get the enthusiasm to watch a three hour film with no ending

It has an ending. You just need to wait a year and another 3 hours.

It's about 2 and a half hours. It does have a "the team achieve a goal" ending at least.

I still haven't seen the last one.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) - Watched it now that it's on Paramount+. You've probably either seen it or read reviews by now and what you've heard is accuate: the first hour or so is pretty rough as they recap the previous movie, and some tie-ins to several other movies, and introduce characters who you couuld have possibly left out this movie without making much difference ("Hi, I'm the son of the villain form the first movie! You'll forget about me until the very end where I don't actually do anything anyway!") The Entity also does not work as a villain at all as it only has one speaking scene and the rest of the movie is just everyone saying "The Entity" a lot. The human villain is just a total laughing mad man and the movie seems to figure this out by the end where he gets a hilarious death scene. Once it gets going though it is good. There's some great fights and the biplane sequence at the end is the type of inspired lunacy you watch these movies for. Pom Klementieff is also so fun in everything she does. But yeah it's one of the weaker M:I movies, really, and I kind of hope it isn't the last one. They should do another with a good story where Ethan goes into space and falls off the moon or something.
