Menty’s Breakdown (of Games)

It's the 25th Anniversary of IX. I was hoping it would come with the remake announcement but no dice. I still think it's inevitable but maybe a bit further down the line than I'd hoped.

I'll drop some artwork to celebrate. One of the finest video games ever made.

This is extremely wholesome and just shows how incredible the sense of achievement is when beating a Dark Souls title and that anybody can do it with perseverance and the right mindset.

I’ve been quiet in here because I’ve been chipping away at some behemoths of games in parallel. Which means: expect some big posts and a lot of thoughts on several titles over the next few months.

That said, I did actually finish something. Sort of.

I finally wrapped the first Ace Attorney game, remastered for PC. That’s 5 cases. The version I have is the Trilogy edition, though, so technically I’ve only finished the first of three games in this set. On top of that, I also own the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, so I’m sitting on something like 50 cases in total. Which is insane when you think about it. For context, Case 5 of the first game alone took me around 10 hours. In terms of value for money, that makes me pretty happy.

I really vibe with the series. It’s got that trademark Japanese quirkiness, it’s unique, and it’s surprisingly deep and well-written. Sure, it can get a bit convoluted at times, but the cases consistently deliver sharp twists, clever logic puzzles, and a serialized through line that ties everything together. It’s genuinely quality stuff. The characters are all larger than life and most are really intriguing.

Of course, I already knew the OBJECTION! memes, but I’d always meant to give the series a proper go. With all nine mainline games now remastered and out on PC, it feels like an absolute content bomb. At my pace, I’ll be working through them for years.
