Well, I'm sure that confirmed everyone's suspicion of no peace in our time. You can really get very far with someone who thinks they're part of God's chosen people.
 
I wished Louis had replied at the end when the crazy teenager (with the most ridiculous exxont) said that being an atheist was pointless and self-serving. There he was being a right old selfish cunt and he thinks that people can only be charitable and have a generous spirit if they believe in God.

Did anyone see Louis Theroux's new documentary 'The Settlers'? It was a follow-up to this one (which I guess I watched but can't remember.) It was very powerful stuff, I thought, and pretty grim for the people living there. Not the kind of thing you usually see. Louis questioning the IDF was pretty fucking brave. That Daniella woman was fucking insane pushing him hoping he'd hit back (did she really think he'd hit her?) It is worth watching.
 
I haven't seen it yet, but I’ve seen the absolute tripe being peddled on X (I guess I’ll give up calling it Twitter since it’s not, is it) and it’s actually made me want to watch it. And I will. Louis is brave. That sometimes gets lost in what he does because he’s so disarming, but that’s impressive, right? I mean, if the whole shtick doesn’t work, he’s been in positions where he could be royally fucked. It’s worth noting.

The impression I’m getting is that the usual Zionist contingent is trying to frame this as him picking out extremists (because as with any Louis doc their own words sink them, so they can’t really wrangle that) and now people are calling him an anti-Semite (of course) and yadayada. But I think any veneer over Netanyahu’s government being anything other than fascist genocidal maniacs is done and dusted. And yes, you’re allowed to think that without supporting Hamas, by the way, random Google viewer.

I think the fact that he puts most of his time into speaking to the settlers, rather than ordinary people (whoever they might be in the equation), is what attracts suggestions of bias. But that’s disregarding that his documentaries always focus on the individuals at hand, and their perspective, rather than giving an overall picture of a conflict or country. It’s not bias to show that these people exist, and to let them incriminate themselves on camera, and he doesn’t even suggest that they hold a majority view. The opposite, to some extent, since he refers to them as extremists.

Saying all that, I thought the episode could have benefited from a bit more time spent with the Israeli peace demonstrators, to understand their perspectives more fully.

Got to agree he has balls tho. When he was asked at the checkpoint how long he’d be in Israel for and replies that he doesn’t think he’s entering it... oof.
 
It's ironic the part where the IDF are questioning if he speaks Arabic brings to the mind the time the neo nazis were asking him if he was Jewish.
