Well, the bad guys brought it there when they weren't well-mannered enough to wipe their feet upon entering the cave, OBVIOUSLY!!
 
It was powdered sugar. The bad guys were baking a cake for a surprise birthday party for Lara Croft and she ruined the surprise.
