Jerry Jones expects Dak to be with Cowboys for 'a long time'
Since training camp started, the Dallas Cowboys have signed cornerback Trevon Diggs, safety Malik Hooker and right tackle Terence Sreele to extensions and reworked the contract of right guard Zack Martin, and they would still like to work on deals with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Prescott and Lamb are under contract through 2024 with Prescott set to count $59.4 million against the salary cap next year. Jones has continually expressed the desire to sign Prescott to an extension, but getting one completed would actually chew into salary cap room this year. In 2024, Prescott is scheduled to make $29 million in salary and has a $5 million roster bonus.

Dak Prescott: Comfort in Cowboys' offense at 'all-time high'
As he comes off a year in which he tied for the NFL lead in interceptions, despite missing five games, and saw the departures of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and best friend Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is more than ready for 2023 to begin Sunday against the New York Giants. Prescott has had to learn an altered offense with the changes that new playcaller Mike McCarthy has implemented to what the quarterback has called the "Texas Coast" offense, a blend of the head coach's West Coast philosophies and what the Cowboys have done for years. Prescott had 15 interceptions in the regular season a year ago and had two more in the playoffs, leading to a high level of scrutiny from outside the organization if not inside. Prescott has missed 17 games over the past three seasons because of injuries but has not missed a snap in the offseason program or training camp, although he did not see any preseason action.

Jerry Jones: Cowboys in 'as good shape as we've ever been'
In January, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones dealt with the disappointment of another playoff loss to the San Franciso 49ers. As he enters his 35th season, Jones believes this year's Cowboys team is better than the one that ended last season. Jones continued to back Dak Prescott, who is entering his eighth year as the Cowboys' starting quarterback. Prescott has not gotten past the divisional round in four career playoff appearances as he tries to do what only Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman have done for Dallas.

Cowboys set franchise history, leave 'no doubt' with 40-0 win
Micah Parsons was not surprised by the Dallas Cowboys' 40-0 throttling of the New York Giants on Sunday:
Sunday marked:
* The largest shutout win in franchise history. Before Sunday, that distinction belonged to a 38-0 win against the Baltimore Colts in 1978.
* The second-largest margin of victory against the Giants in 122 matchups. In 1966, the Cowboys opened the season with a 56-7 win over New York. And in 1995, the Cowboys opened the year with a 35-0 win against the Giants.
* The Cowboys became the fifth team to open their season with a shutout of 40-plus points on the road, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The last such occasion came in 1999, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns 43-0.
* The Cowboys sacked Daniel Jones seven times. It was the most sacks in a season opener by a Dallas defense since it had nine in 1994.
* Cowboys running back Tony Pollard was the fifth Cowboy in the past 50 years with multiple rushing touchdowns in a season opener and the first since Marion Barber in 2008.
With the victory, Dak Presott won his 11th straight start against the Giants; he has not lost to the Giants since 2016, his rookie year. Hall of Famer Roger Staubach had an 11-game win streak against New York in the 1970s.

NFL journalist Jim Trotter alleges discriminatory comments by Jerry Jones, Terry Pegula in retaliation lawsuit
Former NFL Network journalist Jim Trotter filed a retaliation lawsuit against the NFL on Tuesday alleging his contract was not renewed because he called out NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on the league's lack of diversity. The lawsuit, which features a detailed timeline of Trotter's termination, also accuses Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula of making discriminatory comments when asked about player protests and the league's diversity efforts. The lawsuit accuses Pegula of stating Black players should "go back to Africa" after being asked about player protests against racial injustice. Trotter's lawsuit alleges Pegula responded to a question about the protests by stating, "If the Black players don't like it here, they should go back to Africa and see how bad it is." Trotter claims he raised complaints over that comment, though the league allegedly did not take action.
Trotter also accuses Jones of stating, "If Blacks feel some kind of way, they should buy their own team and hire who they want to hire" when asked about the league's poor track record of hiring Black professionals. He referenced a conversation with Will McClay, who is Black, in his response. McClay was hired to the Cowboys personnel department as assistant director of player personnel in 2013. Micah Parsons joined the chorus of observers confused as to why Daniel Jones wasn't pulled -- for his own protection -- from the Giants' historic season-opening loss to the Cowboys. With Parsons leading the charge, Dallas sacked Jones seven times and constantly pressured the New York quarterback in Sunday night's 40-0 blowout. But despite the lopsided score and their inability to handle the Cowboys' pass rush, the Giants kept Jones in the game until their final possession -- a decision that drew widespread criticism.Parsons had an upfront view of the wreckage; the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher had a sack, a tackle for a loss and two other hits on Jones. The two-time Super Bowl winner joined the organization in 2023 free agency, immediately following the club's decision to move on from Ezekiel Elliott. Jones went on to have a rough training camp, mostly due to the two-game suspension that was levied for violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, but he subsequently suffered a groin injury that prevented him from participating in any of the three preseason contests. As a vested veteran, Jones is not subject to waivers and is free to sign with any NFL team.

Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs suffers torn ACL
Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee during Thursday's practice. Diggs suffered the injury during a one-on-one period in practice and was briefly spotted inside the team facility on crutches before undergoing an MRI, which revealed the tear. It is a massive loss for a Cowboys defense that is ranked No. 1 in the NFL in yards allowed and points per game through two weeks. Since entering the NFL in 2020, Diggs has 18 interceptions -- tied for the most in the NFL with J.C. Jackson of the Los Angeles Chargers. According to NFL Next Gen Stats data, Diggs has allowed just three catches for 31 yards on eight targets as the nearest defender in coverage this season. Quarterbacks have a 9.9 passer rating on throws with Diggs as the nearest defender. Diggs has forced a fumble, intercepted a pass and recorded three pass breakups while being credited with six tackles in two games.
