DREAM THREAD Part Pi.Pi!

Not a terribly exciting dream, but not a standard dream for me. Brought on by the prospect of having an extra day to the weekend. The smaller cities between San Diego and LA in the early 2000s is likely the setting. I've a free day so I decide to check out some bars and restaurants I haven't had a chance to get around to. Everything is super crowded so it's difficult to get in--it's like a restaurant district, almost like a mall food court in that once you get into this one stretch it's just all bars and restaurants. I walk down the strip, casing out each of the places to decide where to stop, and settle on the second to the last place. As soon as I sit down I notice this girl, having troubles with one of her shoes. She's got a kind of 1970s Swedish girl in California look--tan, freckles, straight longer fine blonde hair. And she's wearing a sort of tan kind of suede looking outfit with a short dress. She can't get her shoe back on so I decide to go over and help. I grab a sort of footstool that is under a nearby table for her to put her foot on and get some leverage. I help stabilize everything and she thanks me and we make some small talk. Of course at that point my brain realizes it has no idea how to talk to girls so I wake up and realize there were some Cinderella jokes or "I can always come home with you to help you get it off" lines, but I didn't think of them until after the dream was over.

Some kind of strange retelling of all the star trek films, but set in a small metal container.

Bleah. Hydrated enough that I woke up for a bathroom break before 1am. So my 3am trip happened at a quarter to 5. And I couldn't get back to sleep, eventually falling asleep and having banal still awake dreams. In one I had an office job and I'd been...away. On vacation? Dunno...for a week or two. Came back and not only had my wastebasket not been emptied, people had used it for their trash from the manager getting everyone burgers. And then there was some kind of audition dream and either me or someone I was with was getting annoyed and dejected because they kept getting parts playing a kindergartner or toddler--solely because they were 3 years old.

Two new dreams, the second being unsettling enough to wake me up for a bit.

First was some kind of group activity, working in pairs/small groups in a school gym that was based on my first elementary school--on a bed for some reason (it was storming out so it's possible emergency shelters factored into the setting). We were all making hot dog dogs to sell for a fund raiser. Basically cooking a bunch of hot dogs and then pinning them together with toothpicks so the looked like dogs--the way a balloon animal dog looks like a dog. Everyone else had finished theirs and was doing other things but mine was taking forever. I finally had the last hot dog done and had found one last toothpick that I could use--but couldn't find the dog I'd been making. We looked everywhere but it was gone. I was told not to worry because there were plenty of other hot dog dogs to sell but it was disappointing.

Second dream, we're visiting some farm in Wisconsin during winter. After dinner(?) I take my cocktail and a glass of water and head out to the barn, along with a big sort of chocolate lab dog, where a couple of the guys are hanging out with my Dad(?). We're making small talk about how hard it is to prepare for a catastrophe (again the storm while I was sleeping), compared to someplace like Kentucky because water is much more likely to freeze so it's hard to store. Somehow I dropped both my glasses but it was OK because they landed in snow. Picking them up I realized I could just keep drinking them--even with a little snow in them--but did manage to get a splash of whisky on the dog. They said that was OK and the dog wouldn't mind. Then I noticed someone outside and they said I should check on my Mom. It was her. The barn had been locked so we let her in and she said they'd made her leave the house. She and I went back to the house for a bit. The kitchen was very country craft and my Mom was going over and over about how horrible it was. And how, after I'd went to the barn, they'd accused me of biting one of the chairs. Then she picked up a sort of cookie jar and started taking whatever was in it out and me and one of the women from the farm coaxed her out so we could go home. Woke up a bit before 6am and wound up checking the clock to decide if I should try to get back to sleep or not. In the end I did.

I've been having dreams lately, but not anything memorable or even long enough to mention even if I remembered them. Just a long string of short, relatively mundane dreams every night. For example, the one I do remember, I was at some kind of formal with my old high school classmates, only we were probably in our mid 30s or so. I'm in a tux and with some girl who was kind of a friend and ran into a girl I was attracted to but nothing ever came of it so I made some small talk with her. That was the dream.

I think there was a recent one where I had to go somewhere and submit a form or pay a fee or something.

I dream about the same building and the same elevator.
Why

I *have* been having wild, amazing dreams lately. But I've been forgetting them almost immediately. Last night I had one bit memorable enough that I remembered a snippet. The dream was some kind of murder mystery or disaster response. Or maybe a game/training exercise. I remember this because one part went particularly badly and I was disappointed by it. Then I woke up to use the bathroom and when I went back to sleep I did that part over, knowing the things I'd wanted to change, and it still turned out about the same way.

Then there was a bit just before I got up where I was going to...some kind of office in a house? You know, the way sometimes an independent insurance salesman will set up their living room like an office? Like that. They were with someone else and I know they knew I was there, but I think there was a "Ring bell for service" sign above the doorbell and, having OCD/German/midwestern tendencies I rang the bell. Instead of going "Ding-Dong!" a strobe light flashed inside and it sounded more like the ring-tone for a 1990s office phone. When the girl showed up to show me to the waiting room I apologized for ringing the bell when I knew they knew I was there.

SHIT! Remembered my dreams today. But forgot to write them down. Let's see if I can get them back: I'd been watching "Pawn Stars" and they had a couple cars they looked at.

So my first dream, I had some car that was...getting fixed? It was kind of a lemon that I was stuck with. But then the son from Pawn Stars had to test drive it. He missed his turn, lost control and put it into a snowbank, so he was on the hook for fixing it. And it had some kind of California title that had weird rules where he HAD to fix it, he couldn't just buy it and demo it.

This made me realize I've had a recurring dream where I have a car die and so my parents take me somewhere to buy a "good reliable" used car that immediately has problems too.

Then there was a dream where I was...working? at an airport where they were remodeling the terminal. All the airline people were pissy because they weren't allowed into the areas being worked on either. And passengers were having to go out onto the tarmac to get in and out of planes. On top of that we had these kind of elevator crane things for passengers and they had to go between the planes, like a skywalk level, and a below ground level. At one point I had to get somewhere and didn't want to move unless I was with a group or told I was clear to move because I didn't want to get squashed by a jetliner.

Some weird dream last night, where I was being hazed into some strange fraternal organization.

The pattern continues. I had a number of weird dreams last night but I only remembered the last one, which happens to be the most interesting and relatable.

We start with the social gathering in a high school gym format. In this version, someone(s) is infected with some kind of vampirelike contagion. I'm trying to not get infected but more and more people are getting infected. Then the lights go out/are turned off for a bit and when they come back on, pretty much everyone is hanging from the ceiling, looking down on me. They start swarming down and for some reason I start to sing. Then I realize they are compelled to dance as long as there's music so I keep singing so they'll dance instead of attacking me while I make my way to the door. Oh, at some point I tried to telephone someone to spread the alarm but had to hang up because it was some long recorded message before you could get through to anyone.

So I got out and the landscape is loosely based on around my high school, but there are some storm sewers or culverts that I'm able to duck through to avoid observation. Eventually I'm far enough away that I stick my head out and there are bigfoot/wolfman monsters roaming all over the place. I'm clearly too late so I plan to try to get away somewhere relatively safe when one comes down into the little hollow I was hiding in and I wake up.

I wonder if I'm becoming more aware of my dreams and/or more able to lucid dream. Last night was a pretty familiar format. I'm in a group of people headed South (New Orleans? North Carolina?) for disaster/hurricane relief. For whatever reason I've decided to pack tactical clothing and gear with a sidearm and an AR15. We get in fairly late but they're sending out a group. I decide I need to get settled in a bit first--and am still a bit on the fence on whether I should go out armed. One of the other guys is going to and they're busting my balls that I'm not getting ready to go out so I decide to do it. And of course my work clothes are missing. The firearms are still there but the clothes are missing. I'm just about to start trying to find them and my brain goes "Oh yeah, I'm dreaming. And this always happens in my dreams. I can spend the rest of the dream searching and I'm never going to find everything so I might as well end this dream right now."

You know when you fall asleep at a weird early time, and its raining out, or its really hot out and then you wake up and life is all wierd?

I just had some sort of 90's flashback movie dream. Except its now.
I'm drivin around with my sister and someone else and for some reason we stop at someone's house I knew from back in the day and the son lets us in and the whole time I'm like, "What are we doing here?" and then we are all sitting on the couch watching a movie and the person that is the head of the house comes in and says, "ahhh you know CK?" and I just sort of nod like "Yeah". I excuse myself and l go into the restroom and I look in the way back machine which must have been my phone and I see that I had a homemade CD from that guy.
And then I'm trying to figure out who is in the living room and I look at one guy and ask what grade he is in-and realize he was the baby we were all holding and everything is tripping me out and the people I came with are really into this movie but finally I ask if we can go and I say "I feel like I"m getting sick"
and then the guy gives me a hug goodbye and he looks down at my hand and sees this gigantic ring on my finger and he mentions it and I look down and think, "Oh shit, who is that from?" I don't even know.

And then I wake up, its raining. I'm a little lost to what day it is, or where I am. I look at my phone its only 9 PM. There are group texts happening and someone texted and said everyone could come down after 8:30-who is it? I don't even know.
I don't respond.

For a moment I thought we may have had similar dreams until the part about hanging upside down from the ceiling!

Oh I had my typical house sitting dream too-I just remembered since I woke up. In real life I was pet sitting a cat. I brought it back today. He was outside and came over today but didn't want to come in, he wanted to play.
Anyway in my dream one of the cats was soaked of course from the rain and there were so many cats. I feel like I better open my door and make sure no cats are trying to get in.

A couple preliminaries: I have been having dreams. Wild, interesting dreams. But I never remember enough of them to write them up. I usually have my dreams in the morning--often after the alarm goes off and I'm hitting the snooze--but the other night I had a dream that I actually remembered and it wasn't even midnight yet. Woke up to use the bathroom so I assumed it was at least 2:30 and it was 11:52. I was like "shit, I'm often not even asleep by now."

Anyhow, last night I woke up around 4 and couldn't get back to sleep. Then I got back to sleep and dreamed I couldn't get back to sleep. In the end I wound up spending around 3 hours dreaming about moving stuff in an office.

So I'm working at some office where they really don't do much of anything--and I do particularly little. It's not, like, a downtown office building. More like a warehouse office, where it's all ground floor and just random offices, tucked away wherever they decided to put them. While I was working there, there were all these unused, empty offices, so over time I'd brought in my junk to furnish them--you know, the stuff you had that you thought was cool when you were 20 and now that you're older you realize it is kind of terrible but you still have some kind of attachment to it? So basically anything that I would've thrown out because I was too cheap to get a storage unit for shit I'd never ever use again, I'd been bringing into work and furnishing these empty offices with. Meanwhile they've actually been hiring new people and they're stacked on top of each other, sharing cubicles. Eventually someone realizes these unused offices and while I'm moving my stuff out of them they're simultaneously setting up standard office furniture in them and I'm a little annoyed because it would make more sense and go faster if they just let me move my crap out first. Also, everyone's cats have gotten in and are hanging out and some people are worried that the cats will get out and run away or something. And yes, I basically dreamed this from around 5am on.
