DREAM THREAD Part Pi.Pi!

Kind of a "Jackass" dream this morning. There's, like, this big dam or something and this guy has decided he's going to get pulled up a spillway by a ski boat. He's got some kind of makeshift footwear that starts out as spikes, possibly to attach a foam board to but later foot-sized cutouts are made from the foam so he can wear them like slippers. The boat will be at the top and everything about it is a bad idea but he won't be dissuaded. I don't think my brain knew what to do with the resolution of the dream, so it just kept creating delays in the stunt until I woke up.

At one point the boat I thought we were going to use was apparently a police boat and the officer showed up, put on his uniform and went to work. Later a lady in a boat tried to talk him out of it too. At one point I was looking for the best place to watch the stunt from but later I adjusted my plan to factor in not getting hit with the body/having to help with lifesaving efforts after everything went horribly wrong.

A series of weirdly mundane little dreams this morning:

I'd found a big stack of homemade videotapes (weren't specifically videotapes, but what else is in a box that you put into a machine to watch things you've recorded off TV with) and I was going through them to see if there was anything worth keeping.

Then my Mom was visiting and snooping around and accosted me on what I thought were my acid reflux pills, but it was in a different container and had some different pills in it. I later "remembered" (in the dream) that they must've been pills the doctor had sent home with me after the exam that I'd been too zonked out to remember getting.

Then there was some kind of desktop computer that we were all taking turns making programs on while someone who was relatively important in Dream Reality was sitting behind us, giving advice.

I think there were some other ones, but those are the ones I remembered.

OK. Two. Tonight's, I got invited to some fetish party that was supposed to be amazing and there was, like, one fetish "scene" and the rest of the night was basically just a regular party--food, dancing, etc. I mean, it was a good party, but if I want to go to a party I go to a party. If I go to a fetish party, there should be some kinky shit happening.

Night before, I was living on some kind of hardscrabble subsistence farm--with my Mom(?). Like, a mobile home with her, my dog and cat, a goat or two, a Shetland pony, and maybe a cow. There was supposed to be a big storm--like a blizzard tornado or something so everyone had to evacuate, but we were halfway out and realized we should've...done something with the animals? The storm was likely going to miss us? It would be better to just ride it out? I forget. Something that made dream-sense. So we turned around to go back. But on the way, a big chunk of the dirt road washed out. 1 or 2 cars that were leaving decided to just go and made it across, but they were going downhill. My Mom was driving and decided to try to get across--even though we'd be going uphill. Of course we weren't going to make it, so I jumped out while we were still rolling and would push to help keep momentum. I think we made it to the top but woke up or something around then.

Long and fairly coherent one last night. I'm going to radically simplify it partly because I've forgotten a lot of the detail and partly because I don't feel like typing too much.

Started with a kind of prologue where I was back at the childhood house. My brother was living there and I was visiting with my dog. The Dog apparently got into his old bedroom and chewed up a football poster that had been on the wall since childhood and so my brother had...hurt her paw? At any rate he'd bandaged a front paw and apologized but explained he'd been mad so I apologized for the poster. The dog didn't seem to actually have been hurt, in spite of the bandage. Were our parents there? I'm not sure. Possibly. Because the main part of the dream, we were all going to some kind of resort/megachurch/time-share/pyramid scheme. My brother got suckered by the pitch and I spent the rest of the dream, trying to extract us all from the place. I kind of wish I could remember some more of the detail, because it seemed like there were some interesting bits. And it was in the morning, so I'd wake up a bit, but only enough that my conscious brain could feed in new tidbits for the plot, but not so much that I lost the dream--I'd go back into the same dream with new elements to work through.

Last night... (Or more accurately, this morning)... This night shift, part time job continues to screw with me. I was in the trailer, unloading, Friday. So Saturday I was pretty wiped out. Almost wound up going to bed before midnight--before my friend called to talk about nothing for as long as I'd stay on the line. Even so, I was in bed by 12:30. Thought I'd get a solid 7 hours of sleep and wake up early to maybe even mow the lawn before the rain. Instead I woke up at 5:30 and either couldn't get back to sleep or dreamed I couldn't get back to sleep until the alarm went off at 7:06--instead of the 7:30 it was supposed to go off. At that point I promptly fell asleep--and it started raining like a complete bastard outside (not necessarily in that order).

First dream, I was getting up. Only I was sharing a bedroom with my brother and I was trying to figure out how to look at Internet porn without him seeing it. Then it started raining in the dream--no surprise there--so I went out on the roof to see how the storm was. Only the roof was basically a roof-sized version of the dresser in my childhood bedroom, with a 2x4 nailed to one corner...as a railing? I grabbed it for balance, getting out on the roof but it wasn't on there very well and I almost fell. Then I wondered how a varnished flat roof could hold up to the elements so my subconscious quickly made this a kind of fake roof that was actually inside the house (which was set up like the inside of my childhood bedroom).

Then we got a scene change and I'm at some kind of college with architecture a little like Professor X's school in the X-men movies. I'm trying desperately to get laid. This girl is flirting with me in a car but it's apparently just to be a cock-tease, as she foils all my advances. Then the car gets jostled or something and I wind up with a hand on her naked boob so she starts freaking out because I actually got to second base. I try to calm her down and explain that I can't move my hand even if I wanted to because of how cramped we are in the car. Eventually I'm out and I hear one of the Japanese exchange students is a complete horny slut so I go to investigate that--but it turns out there's like, a dozen Japanese exchange students and I can't figure out which one is the slut. I'm following one that looks promising, but then she goes into the women's locker room and I'm trying to remember what the etiquette on following her in would be in a dream. About that time the storm outside really picks up in the dream so we all head to the roof and see that a big tree by the Chancellor's building is down. We can't see the extent of the damage, but then we see the big tree next to the dorms is down too.

At that point they decided to evacuate us--by train. The woman health/PE teacher happens to be moving--also by train--so I'm trying to be human and make small talk with her while she's checking on her furniture in one of the cargo cars. She clearly doesn't want to be bothered and anyway, it is getting time to leave, so I leave her alone. I'm trying to get into my car and the train has started moving, but I'm behind 3-4 people who are just fucking around and blocking the way because they won't get on and I'm increasingly worried that the train will be moving too fast and/or the doors will close (like those automatic commuter train doors) before I can get on and I'll be left behind.

Ultimately, I wound up sleeping 2 1/2 hours later than I'd planned on, which should more than make up for the hour and a half or so that I may or may not have been awake during the night.

Had one the other night, I was some kind of mix of Bruce Willis and Nic Cage, started off quite geeky with me and my team in a quiz trying to name Thomas the tank engine characters in alphabetical order, then there was an emergency call to jump in our plane and go, the helcules was already rolling with the back door down, my team got on, but I missed getting on because I was distracted by a helicopter, as I watched the plane take off it exploded shortly after, then the terrorists arrived.

They started shooting at me so I got in a lift, which took me down to a kitchen area, down there a bad guy was drowning a woman in a pool and I grabbed his own shotgun and killed him and his mates, I then got a grenade launcher and took out the rest of his squad, then realising I had fired five shots from an M203 without reloading I suddenly realised that wouldn't happen and woke up.

Just a little snippet from last night:

I was at some kind of police facility, doing some kind of demo/training on defensive loads for shotguns and I was supposed to shoot at a target while they had uniformed officers standing downrange. Like, halfway between me and the target, there's a guy standing in between the targets. I got ready to shoot about 3 times and finally was like "I'm not shooting when there's someone standing right there. Even if my aim is perfect, with a shotgun there's a very good chance he's going to get hit."

Also retarded about this shooting range is that the walls were all glass. And like the computer room or whatever in "Die Hard," most of them were shattered and there were big piles of broken glass all over the floor.

2 nights ago was some kind of MCU Lovecraft dream where I was part of a team trying to stop some humanoid with tentacles for a face. I wish I could remember more about it, but I can't. But I had to mention last night's, because it was interesting, psychologically.

In dreams, dead people are often still alive. And it seems perfectly natural. In this one, my brother and I (and maybe my [dead] parents) were visiting my [dead] Aunt. But in this dream, my brother and I realized that my Aunt was dead. So we had to sneak off and go to my Aunt's house to confirm she wasn't there. (My Aunt had some friends that lived a few blocks away that we visited on occasion, and I think my brain changed the first location to this when it decided it needed to leave my Aunt's house to go to...my Aunt's house.)

So me and my brother are poking around the house and there are lots of memories, but my Aunt is clearly not there.

Now, I think the fact that my brother played such a big role was important. Because he is still alive. And as far as I know, we are on good terms. But he never returns phone calls. So I think my subconscious is telling me to just let him go and not worry about him. I dunno.

I've had some pretty neat ones of late, but I keep forgetting them. Or forgetting to write them down. Last night's was fairly boring: The school board (or some other faceless authority figure) needed everyone to fill out information sheets (it wasn't a form, just a sheet of blank paper where they told us what to put on it). I didn't take it very seriously and made a mess in filling mine out. Then I decided I should submit a proper sheet--only there wasn't any more blank paper anywhere. I checked in a printer and in drawers and everywhere but everything has writing on it. So they were waiting for me and getting impatient.

Been having dreams. Even good ones. But either forgetting them too quickly or not having time to write them down (and then forgetting them), but last night...I was in some kind of outdoor wedding. And they had, like, a combination of a mobile command center and a museum and a bridal store at the location--great big truck/bus that had wall-sized displays of what each of the wedding party should be wearing. But there was this one weird combination for the men--it wasn't for the groom, maybe the best man? That I didn't understand and none of the wedding planners could explain. Then we had to load everyone in the command bus to go somewhere (to get something that was missing from the outfit in question?) and wound up in New York City. We parked in some kind of parking garage that had a cafeteria and were sitting around, trying to figure out what to do. People were calling the wedding, where the guests were getting restive and at some point the dream changed and we all happened to be dressed like we were from some kind of period prison movie. The bus was like an old grey schoolbus and most of us were wearing a yellow kind of scrubs outfit with a few people dressed as old-timey police officers--navy blue wool, brass buttons, and those hats like police officers used to wear. To try to lighten the mood, me and another guy start goofing: "We should see if New York has a Chinese restaurant!" "Yeah! Or...a DINER!" And laughing hysterically while whoever was in charge was dithering on what to do. Then someone...from our group? Just goes up to some random people in the parking garage and says "We need to borrow your car!" and they just agree to it, so they jump in and take off and we just look at them and say "you know you're never seeing that car again, right?"

Only remember a tiny fragment of a dream from last night, but it probably has some symbolism that is significant enough to make me wonder what I was trying to tell me:

I spilled water into the cooktop on my stove and even after I cleaned it up, the burners where the water got spilled wouldn't ignite.

I love you
End of the world bs dream.
What I get for watching city of joy before falling asleep.

Basically a group of us barricade ourselves in a school, and apparently I know how to do it because Im callin the shots.
But not before we get our espresso, speaking of shots.
And we are kickin the coffee lady out.

I hear my team say Im just tryin to avoid my birthday, yeah that makes sense.

So my new end of the world prediction is 2025. Not 2024.

I was on the freeway
about to hit a jeep
and I realized I too was in a jeep
and I wasn't driving
so then I felt safe
and then I saw the front passenger, the guy looked like Santa in flanel
and the driver looked like santa in flanel
and then they didn't look like santa
they looked like redneck types in flannel
and then it became apparent the passenger was (whats the politically correct term for nuts?) (or maybe he was brilliant)
We pulled in to a parking space-and it was a special parking space for this driver-I can't remember the name of it tho
we got out and the passenger started talking to people, he was talking to me too
it was like I was on a date
but I wasn't
it was also like I was kidnapped-and I couldn't escape because I had no idea where I was
then the driver needed help with something
there was food at one point
the passenger kept asking me if I wanted some
I didn't
I just wanted to leave

That was about it
I have never ever had a dream like this one.
I'm usually alone in my dreams, even tho other people are there
This was such a different interaction

Man, off the hook on dreams last night. Actually got plenty of sleep but still didn't want to get up (and still tired) so I must've needed it. I'm sure I've forgotten quite a bit, but I was buying my Aunt's house and then leasing it back to her. I was looking around and since I wasn't using the car I had to use the front door (The house is built over a 2 car garage with the ground on the door side about 4' higher than the side with the garage doors.) And instead of being in a 1970s surburban housing development, it was right in the middle of an undifferentiated urban area. (It's wild, how in dreams dead people can be alive and location is mutable.) So I went outside and was talking with a generic neighbor my subconsious created for exposition about how the area was being fixed up and he was excited by what they were doing with the vacant storefront across from his house. Then there was some kind of noise and we both had to go to our respective houses to investigate and...I caught some sketchy people in my/my Aunt's house? I caught one going out the garage door but of course he was big and immobile and my efforts to subdue or overpower him were fruitless.

Next thing I remember, I'm in a booth at a bar or restaurant or something. Of course for whatever reason I'm naked under a sheet. While I'm making small talk with whoever else is at the booth there's some commotion that something is happening and I realize it is some kind of improv performance art where they're doing "They're Coming to Take Me Away" from the old Dr. Demento radio show and the performers are going around picking out audience members for some kind of escape room or further part of the show. One of them picks me but then realizes I'm not wearing any clothes, which makes for an awkward moment...and that's about as much as I remember.

Oh. Just remembered another one from that night--because I had a sequel to it tonight. Other night I dreamed I got a call from someone in the Marine Corps, pissed at me because I'd done my performance reviews wrong 20 years ago and as a result all the people that had reported to me were showing up on their roster--so they couldn't GET any people for those jobs because headquarters said they already had these people who'd worked for me. Well I'd forgotten about this, so they called me up AGAIN tonight to ask why it wasn't fixed yet. I'm trying to think of who I can call that can tell me how to fix this and remembering I have a peer from that time in my phone address book. Called him but got voicemail.

I have some fairly boring and specific dreams.

So much last night. And I remember a lot of it. I don't know if I'm even going to try to do the whole thing, but it was all kind of unrelated dreams about having a bad day that were linked together into one dream bad day. And then it got meta, where I told my coworkers(?) about said day. (In retrospect, this may have been over bent lawnmower blade yesterday.)

At one point in the dream my car was in the shop so I had to drive the A-Team van to work. Since I'm kind of proud of it and it makes other people smile, I parked it somewhere that people could see it. Came out at some point to find that it had been completely cannibalized--stripped of anything of value. Tried calling the police but couldn't get through. Then I remembered the police station was right next to where I was working so I went in...and stood around because everyone was too busy to help me. Eventually I got someone's attention and they realized they would be able to see the van from their office window so they looked out--and someone was back to get more stuff. So I ran out and caught one of them. The other one got away, but I tackled him and just started beating the crap out of him. Later on, the other thief came out of a local warehouse/factory where he...worked?...and I caught him too. I don't know if I was able to recover the stolen parts.

There was other stuff--having to spend the day the way I dressed in the early 1980s (which may have seemed cool to a 12 year old nerd, but boy...), working in a junkyard trying to repair old radios (that didn't even have speakers, since the boss had ripped the speakers out to sell for scrap before he decided to repair the radios) while one of the workers kept trying to dump rotten garbage everywhere; going on a field trip with a British substitute teacher where I had to walk on a rickety catwalk 4-5 stories up over a parking lot with an armload of books to get back to the classroom; visiting someone and being in the middle of looking at their collectibles when they had to leave and thus were kicking me out--and their brother fucking up my umbrella in trying to help me get my things together to leave.

A mildly interesting one I remember from last night. Woke up for my halftime bathroom break and couldn't get back to sleep. I knew I was tired, but wasn't able to get back to sleep. Considered just getting up and doing computer work but eventually drifted off and...

I'm at some kind of big event. I'm really too busy to be at it but can't get out of it. Then the chancellor of the university (all vaguely modeled on my undergrad university) buttonholes me and asks me if I can memorize a 25 line poem to recite to an audience in about 4 hours. I ask if I can see it and he says I can't until I commit. I'm trying to decide if I can commit so I grab this brochure or whatever that has ruled lines on it and start counting them to see how long 25 lines is. Some sketchy hustler pops in to help with the counting so I let him but then he has some kind of non-answer. I try to pin him down but can't so I just start counting the lines again and he starts counting too, but he's doing like this "new math" randomly saying numbers like they somehow add up or are a shortcut (like 5, 10, 15...) but only serves to make it harder for me to concentrate. Anyway, I get it counted and it doesn't seem impossible but I point out that I'm not a big poetry fan so it really isn't my strong suit and it would help if I knew what I was getting into. I point out that I can recite Patton's opening speech in the movie and Quint's Indianapolis speech from "Jaws" but I don't think I learned them in a few hours. I point out I once had TOP SECRET security clearance so he can show me the poem and I'll keep my mouth shut if I can't memorize it. I wait around for him to go get it and he comes back and says "Saved by the BSOD." His computer had crashed and he didn't have a hard copy of it.

Linked coherent dreams last night. Boring in and of themselves, but somewhat interesting from the angle of what is my brain working on dealing with:

Back at my [dream] office job. They had some consultant in to make a video or recording or something and I missed that they were doing photos of everyone who contributed. I got there as everyone else was finishing up and there was an awkward pause until the consultant finally prompted me to do some kind of action pose and convey energy. She wasn't at all happy and couldn't get anything she liked and I told her I didn't take particularly good posed photographs. I kept deciding I should smile but not being able to hold it more than a second or so before it would turn hokey and fake. While she's trying to get a good picture another guy comes along who didn't get the message so we decide to give him a try first. Same awkward pause happens and I wind up having to coach him on what she's waiting for. Oh, and she's asking us about other people she needs photos for. The other guy is new and I explain that I only work at this place off and on and haven't been here for a few years so I don't know a lot of the people anymore.

Don't know how this all turned out but next thing I know, I'm out for a walk and decide to stop by my old [dream] apartment. Someone is with me. The guy from the office photo shoot? I dunno. While I'm there I realize I've left a few things I want. Some...shoes? A pair of bookshelf speakers... I realize my hands are already kind of full and carrying all this crap all the way back to wherever I'm going is going to suck. While I'm trying to figure out how to organize everything, the neighbors from the apartment across the street start accosting us because the people in my old apartment treat them like crap and telling us that they're not going to let them use the pool at their apartment anymore (my apartment doesn't have a pool). I point out that I don't live there anymore and they're like "yeah, we know, you're fine."

And while all this is absurd and doesn't really hold up to analysis, it was all real enough when I woke up that I thought it had happened until I realized I hadn't worked in an office setting like this or lived in an apartment like that since the early 1990s.

Was on holiday somewhere near the sea sat in a bar or restaurant near the beach, the tide was in but the waves started getting more energetic, a big wave went over the sea wall and hit the building pushing it off its foundations, when it stopped moving I ran back to the hotel to get my wife and son, we left everything in the room and ran outside to a higher up garden, somehow I got separated from them.

A much taller wave came and I only lived through it by climbing a tree, a lot of the people with me were washed away.

I knew the next wave would be even taller so I tried to get to a higher building up the hill, but they were that full of people already they weren't letting anyone else in.

Woke after that.
