It's funny how at school we donated canned goods to homeless and elderly people, the ones who are least likely to own/be capable of operating a can opener.
I remember once after harvest festival at our church when all of the nice middle class families gave leeks and carrots and turnips at the altar. It fell on me to deliver all this lovely vegetables.
The first place we went to was full of old people who had difficulty keeping their urine in their bodies, never mind peeling a turnip and boiling it. I swear they just sat and watched it rot whilst drooling.
The second place was some kind of youth place, some well meaning fella was saying how pleased everyone was and I remember seeing some teenagers who looked like they would rather tear my skin off and eat it with a pop tart than eat the shitty vegetables we provided.
I sent a really posh kid to the youth centre the next year. he got some stuff thrown at him and I laughed and then felt horrible guilty but then felt OK cos he was such a twat.
