PKD must've been dropping acid when he wrote this book. He's got great ideas but his prose kinda sucks. I KNOW HE'S CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MASTERS OF SCIENCE FICTION. He has trouble stringing sentences together coherently. Probably why his books make such great movies.
I didn't like the way it ended.. just him going to sleep all covered with dust and that electric frog on the kitchen table.
I love this book and I have watched the film many times. I thought the ending is all about his confusion between what is now android and what is real. He wishes it to be real, but in fact it is not - Is there some ambiguity over wether he is an android or not? Anyway, I like vague endings.
This is the film that has the Olmos quote (Commander Odama) "Too bad she won't live, but then again who does?" This is because in the film he runs off with the android or replicant called Rachael. Olmos shouts it to him as he goes.
Wacky thought this line was "ROBOTS SUCK COCK" - which made me LOL and that is why I sometimes Spam the line.
I need to watch the movie again, because I barely remember anything about it. Mainly just that Rutger Hauer was in it, and kinda what he looked like... it's been a loooooong time since I've seen it. For some reason I thought Hauer played Rick Deckard.. but he actually played Roy Baty. Who had only a very small role in the book. I guess the movie is very loosely based on the book.
I wanted the frog to be real so very badly! I wonder what it was doing out there in the dusty desert.
I just order mine online... I would go to a bookstore if they weren't all so far away. I don't like the library because I want to keep the books I like, or trade them with my friends.
Which reminds me I need to go to Amazon.com and spend my gift certificate!
