Dirk: You idiot.

Did you delete that Astroboy/Iron Man slash fic post? Because if you did, I call for your immediate resignation from your mod position per Article 17 of the Spamstitution.

* Any form of pornography that is illegal in the UK and/or United States. People that try will find themselves not only banned but reported to the relevant authorities. There is ZERO grey area on this. And yes, this includes pornographic fiction pertaining to children.

Does this include robotic fictional "children"? Why aren't I banned already?

Robotic fictional children? The fictional modifier is obviously irrelevant, and we've all seen enough TNG to disregard the robotic element. What you posted was sick, Yub, and I'm honestly disgusted.

Nice try. I didn't move the post, I deleted it. I enforced the rules, as is my job. Menty has the post in the dump bucket. He'll decide how to deal with you. Have a nice day, sicko.

Deletion is moving a post. The post is no longer, for all intents and purposes, in the Badlands.

And you are both assuming because I posted it I validate it or enjoy it, I gather. I didn't even read it. I copied and pasted it from Topless Robot [which isn't sex site, try looking it first]. Besides which every one is an adult on a troll board. If you're here, Iron Man sexing Astroboy shouldn't even make you raise an eyebrow, much less act like TrekBBS mods.

Why did post such "filth"? the lulz. I may just go on a slashfic posting spree, if I'm not banned or daycared for this crime.

Also I don't recall any rules vis images that are merely tasteless. I believe Dirk oversteps the mark to put whatever he deems fit betwixt spoiler tags.

Sorry Yub IMO (and I'm not a boss of you I know) kiddie porn in any garb or mechanism is still kiddie porn.

Get a fucking grip, k?

Say it ain't so.....

Yub, I don't want to see you banned trying to get Dirk into compromising his modship. It's not worth the risk.

This is some of the worst attempted rationalisation of child porn I've ever seen.

Guys, lay down the pitchforks for a second, pls?

Yub, I've read the story at Topless Robot. Personally, I have a somewhat different take on the issue of depicting perverse, illegal, or gross stuff than most people, and I find it hilarious that people get enraged by this story while at the same time being ok with the board-wide accepted usage of rape, manslaughter, and bestiality as running gags, but unfortunately my personal opinion accounts for nothing in a lawsuit, so *shrug*
Of course, topless Robot is an American site hosted by The Village Voice Media, so the fact that they didn't think it was illegal should count for something. OTOH, people are quite sensitive about child porn, so I think Dirk's decision to mod it was a good one. Let's leave the final decision if the post should be finally deleted to the board owner, ok?

The server that TK resides on is clear cut about this stuff. Robot or not it's just not worth the hassle and a potential investigation that I would have to deal with.

Dirk did the right thing. I made it clear that there was to be no grey area on this. I'm sure we can survive without posting this type of crap and using it as a vehicle of vengance to get someone removed from their position is all sorts of lame.

Come on guys. It's not that difficult to understand is it? Really?

I'm glad somebody has a clue. I'm finding all this rather amusing myself. Trying to be Dirk removed in simply icing on the cake. I'm not faulting him for modding it either, but I do think the most he should have done was spoiler it and contact Menty ASAP.

This is some of the worst attempted rationalisation of child porn I've ever seen.

Explain how I attempting say HEY CHILD PORN IS JUST FINE, Dual?

There's nothing illegal about child porn FICTIONAL WRITING. You don't have to like it or anything, but it's not illegal. Just like having drawn pictures of child porn isn't illegal, either.

So basically, as long as a real kid isn't getting exploited, it's not illegal.

Just so everyone knows.

“serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.”

Well that's why right there. Manga falls under none of that.

hmm. Interesting. Who exactly decides what is 'of serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value'?

I hate to break this to you, but you're completely incorrect. In fact, a comic store owner is about to find out the hard way just how completely incorrect you are.

Samantha, I'm surprised at you. I thought you knew better. Hell I KNOW you know better, so why shoot from the hip when there's clearly several pieces in print that will demonstrate how wrong you are.

U.S. Manga Obscenity Conviction Roils Comics World

In an obscenity first, a U.S. comic book collector has pleaded guilty to importing and possessing Japanese manga books depicting illustrations of child sex abuse and bestiality.

Christopher Handley, described by his lawyer as a “prolific collector” of manga, pleaded guilty last week to mailing obscene matter, and to “possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.” Three other counts were dropped in a plea deal with prosecutors.

The 39-year-old office worker was charged under the 2003 Protect Act, which outlaws cartoons, drawings, sculptures or paintings depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and which lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.” Handley’s guilty plea makes him the first to be convicted under that law for possessing cartoon art, without any evidence that he also collected or viewed genuine child pornography. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Comics fans are alarmed by the case, (.pdf), saying that jailing someone over manga does nothing to protect children from sexual abuse.

from wiki:

Child pornography is illegal in most countries with coordinated enforcement by Interpol and policing institutions of various governments, including among others the United States Department of Justice.[8] Even so, the UK based NSPCC said that worldwide an estimated 2% of websites still had not been removed a year after being identified.[9] Recent investigations include Operation Cathedral that resulted in multi-national arrests and 7 convictions as well as uncovering 750,000 images with 1,200 unique identifiable faces being distributed over the web; Operation Amethyst which occurred in the Republic of Ireland; Operation Auxin; Operation Avalanche; Operation Ore based in the United Kingdom; Operation Pin; Operation Predator; the 2004 Ukrainian child pornography raids and the 2008 US child pornography raid. New technology that aids those who produce this material include inexpensive digital cameras and Internet distribution has made it easier than ever before to produce and distribute child pornography. The producers of child pornography try to avoid prosecution by distributing their material across national borders, though this issue is increasingly being addressed with regular arrests of suspects from a number of countries occurring over the last few years.[1][8]
The legal status of simulated or "virtual" child pornography varies around the world; for example, it is legal in the United States, it is illegal in the European Union, and in Australia its legal status is unclear and so far untested in the courts.[10][11][12] Child pornography may be simulated by the use of computers[13] or adults made to look like children.[14]
In 2008, it was discovered that the United States will post fake hyperlinks claiming to be child pornography and then raiding, arresting, and prosecuting anyone who was found using the IP address that visited them, even someone whose computer was an open wifi.[15] In 2008, a man in Middlesbrough was found guilty of downloading "child pornography" when he downloaded computer generated cartoons.[16]
