Well, since I have your attention now, God, this is the place where I ask you all of the questions that I don't have answers to.
 
I always wondered about the black bird, the raven and the crow.
Although these birds are beautiful,
their feathers shiny black, almost shades of color shining in blue,
What did God do?
Throw in the pallet of paint
after painting every bird
so colorful
and then leave this one
with a monotone look
surely there must be a reason

No, an asteroid struck the Yucatan effecting global weather to the point that nothing bigger than a chicken was able to thrive.

What was left of the dinosaurs evolved into the birds of today.

What you're seeing is simply variations on a theme with regard to attracting suitable mates, fending off competition, avoiding predation and increasing the likelihood of finding a decent meal.

Full size dinosaurs would've been a real issue.

So I threw a rock.

Didja ever notice that this theory completely ignores the goldfish principle?
 
That's the whole point. There is a key piece missing, one that a killer asteroid doesn't cover. How come nothing has regrown to fit the cage?
 
I figure the Goldfish Principle applies mainly to goldfish.

More of a distinguishing characteristic than a principle.
 
Not necessarily. There's a lot of evidence in various species either growing or shrinking to fit the available resources. And even if all species don't have that capability, some clearly do and the question remains: why, in the millions of years since that one singular event that supposedly killed the big critters, did nothing grow or evolve to take up that available big-dog slot?

There is a puzzle piece missing.
