Bills safety Damar Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance after receiving treatment for over 10 minutes, which resulted in the game between Buffalo and the Cincinnati Bengals being suspended until further notice Monday night. CPR was administered to Hamlin on the field for multiple minutes after he collapsed on the field following a play in the first quarter. He appeared to be receiving oxygen as he was placed in the ambulance and taken off the field some 16 minutes after he collapsed. The injury took place after Hamlin tackled wide receiver Tee Higgins and quickly got up afterward. He then abruptly collapsed with athletic trainers coming to help immediately. A stretcher was immediately brought to the field as athletic trainers protected his head. However, instead of resuming play, Bengals coach Zac Taylor walked over to Bills counterpart Sean McDermott and met with game officials present. The decision was then made to pause the game -- which the Bengals were leading 7-3 -- some 21 minutes after the injury.

Hamlin was on a stretcher and was in the process of being placed into an ambulance before he was administered CPR on the field for several minutes. He was given oxygen upon entering the ambulance, which transported him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Hamlin, 24, is in the middle of his second season with the Bills. He earned a spot in the Bills' starting lineup this season after appearing in 14 games as a rookie. Hamlin played collegiately at Pitt, where he tallied 276 tackles and six interceptions.

The chilling scene midway through the opening quarter of the Monday night showdown between the two NFL powers led the league to postpone the game about 90 minutes after kickoff. According to the Bills, he is currently sedated and listed in critical condition. The majority of the Bills team remained at Paycor Stadium well into Monday night. The entire team team then departed shortly after midnight and returned to Buffalo. The league did not say when or if the game would be made up or resumed.

Suspended Bills-Bengals game will not resume this week, per NFL​


The game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals that was suspended Monday night after safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest will not be resumed this week, the NFL announced Tuesday. The NFL said in a statement that commissioner Roger Goodell informed the teams that the game would not be resumed this week after consulting with both teams and NFL Players Association leadership. The league, however, has made no decision on resuming the game at a later date, and the Week 18 schedule remains on as scheduled. The Bills are next scheduled to host the New England Patriots on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, CBS). The Bengals are scheduled to host the Baltimore Ravens, but the timing for that game is currently unclear as it was dependent on the outcome of the game against the Bills. It will either be played at 1 p.m. ET or 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS).

Doctors saw promising signs of progress overnight from Damar Hamlin, who remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, according to a friend and business partner of the Buffalo Bills safety.
