I think I hate Vista now. Can't update stuff cause I get the blue screen o' death, I need to update things! Why can't the blue screen have information that is understandable by humans?
No I updated 4 VERY IMPORTANT things and then I started getting the blue screen of death. I uninstalled them and stopped getting the stop message. I think I need those updates though, and I'm sure my computer will try to install them again.
You can set your computer so it doesn't automatically update. Also, I would check Microsoft's Knowledge Base to see if there's any info on the BSODs. Maybe other people are having the same problems.
I'm telling ya, Vista is going to join ME in the OS graveyard.
I've been reading up on stuff at the Vista forums.. although I'm not sure if it's an official forum or just people willing to help with Vista problems. ANYWAY, I don't actually understand what I need to do, so probably should read some more. I think it might have to do with the dial up modem update.. most people don't have a dial up modem, so they can skip that update, but I actually have one so I think I need it. The update fixes something that happens if your computer goes to sleep while you are online.
Well, I got another blue screen a few minutes ago and I think I've narrowed down the cause to my video driver. I was going to watch a youtube video and BAM blue screen.. yesterday I got one when I opened a thread that had a bunch of embedded youtube videos. anyway.. I'm off to see if there's an updated driver for my video card.
Yeah, my clunky old computer crashed a lot.. this one is shiny and new IT STILL HAS THAT NEW ELECTRONICS SMELL FER CRYING OUT LOUD. I'm downloading a new driver, I hope it doesn't cause more problems.. it's 50 MBs and it's gonna take FOREVER.
Concerning updates and your video card, as a general rule of thumb NEVER let Microsoft update your hardware. If Microsoft says your vid card or sound card or whatever has an update, write that down then go to the hardware manufacturer's site and get the update there.
I set my updates so that I get notified when updates are available, then I manually go see what they are and pick and choose which ones to DL.
