Black Mirror Season 7

Common People - Vintage Black Mirror. A story that keeps getting more disturbing as it goes, and even though you can see where it's going that probably adds to the creeping sense of dread. Great performances by Chris O'Dowd and Rashida Jones, and the woman who played the company woman was great too (I like the reveal that she used the lux app.) It was very good, hard to watch at times, but incredibly strong ending that will stay with you.

Bête Noire - It's a good Twilight Zone episode with strong performances from the two leads. But early on I thought "okay she's trapped in a simulation and the other woman is torturing her" and after that you're just kind of waiting for the reveal. And it turns out to be even crazier than a simulation (maybe too crazy!) but that's basically what it was. It was good to watch but it's not one that leaves itself open to much discussion.
 
Hotel Reverie - This was a mixed bag with some reason strong stuff. I'll start with the bad stuff: man, the set-up is fucking weird and contrived and dumb. Why do they have to reshoot the movie in real time? I'm sure there was an explanation but it must have gone by really fast. Why is it all seemingly running off one little PC that realy stupidly gets liquid spilled on it, why does that make time speed up for the people in the movie, why the fuck would they make it so that the main actress DIES in real life if the movie doesn't finish right (okay, that probably wasn't their intention)? Some of the making the movie stuff is good and it looks really impresive, but it gets so silly I ended up annoyed. And the end product, the movie itself, would have been really bad, since the lead actress spends half of it looking confused and saying things that don't fit the time period.

ALL THAT SAID, once they get to the "trapped in the holodeck" part the episode becomes really good. Emma Corrin gives a GREAT performance playing a golden age movie star, who then started to experience her actress' real memories and then finds out she isn't even a real person. It's a pretty complicated character but they're completely believable in all ways. So that's good! But I really wish the epsidoe had spent much more time on that aspect than the dumb as fuck mechanics of making the movie.

Plaything - It was pretty good, very well acted, lots of nice period details, Capaldi and the younger actor were compelling.
 
Eulogy - Yeah, it was good. A basic story about lost love and regrets, where the technology is completely neutral and just there to help move the story.

USS Callister: Into Infinity - Very fun SPACE ROMP. It's more light-hearted than much of Black Mirror and that's nice to have sometimes. I liked how they made it look like Jesse Plemons wasn't going to be in it until he showed up in the flashback. I did think they had him turn into a monster a bit too quick in the scene with Nanette, maybe, it would have been interesting to see more of how different this version of him was. But they do that with Jimmi Simpson's character who is evil in real life but has become a better person in the game so that's okay. I'm not sure where a second sequel could go affter the ending as it seems unlikely Nanette would put herself in the game again (and it's supposedly all deleted now.)
