About Michelle Wei? - just turned 16 years old tipped as a prodigy with an abilty touted to be good enough to get her into the Masters one day and getting sponsered by Nike in a 10 million dollar deal. Believe the hype or is this just Kournikova syndrome?
 
I think golfers are more level headed than Tennis players. I reckon she'll dominate the Bitches Field of golf.
 
I don't really think you can compare golf to tennis. Golf is such an individual sport (with the exception of Ryder, Walker, and President's Cup play, of course), that you really don't compete against another player, as you do in tennis. You're really competing against the course, and against yourself.

I think Wie's talent and potential are limitless. I think she made the wise decision to turn pro. I mean, guaranteed $10M for just turning pro? Anyone would be a fool to turn down life-changing money like that.

As for her career, I expect it to have a similar trajectory to that of Mr. Eldrick "Tiger" Woods. Remember, Woods tore up courses his first year or so, then cooled off. Everyone was talking about how maybe he was overhyped, etc., etc., and now, at age 29, he's the undisputed best golfer in the world.

I expect Wie will have a ton of success on the Asian tour, but she'll falter a bit on the LPGA tours (she gets six sponsor's exemptions, I think. You have to be 18 to turn pro on the LPGA tour). Eventually she'll play within herself and dominate the LPGA the way Tiger dominates the PGA.

Then it'll be on to challenge the men!

In short: Michelle Wie is the real deal. Watch her rising star!

Who would you rate better? Vijay?

I'm not just saying this because he's American, but I truly believe that the only person who can beat Tiger Woods on any given day is Tiger Woods. He sometimes does dumb things that cost him strokes. And I'm not particularly fond of all the fist pumping and/or sulking that he does.

But, IMHO, he's in a class of his own. He can bomb the ball well over 320, his short game is second only to Mickelson's, and his putting can be truly amazing.

I'm curious, where do you rank Woods?
 
He's clearly the best in the world, it's just a shame that like so many at the top of their sport, he appears to be totally devoid of any real personality.

Faldo was the same when he was winning (though usually, almost winning) stuff. Boring as sin to watch.
 
^^I dunno, when he's on a talk show he shows his true personality. I think when he's on the golf course, or being interviewed after a round, he displays the same understated demeanor that is "expected" by the PGA. Remember, this is a sport that tried like the Dickens to have Gary McCord fired from CBS because he tried to inject some color into the broadcasts. Hell, Augusta National did get McCord banned from being a part of The Masters telecast.

Tiger's ok, he's a little more mature now. I just find it amazing that he's a latter-day Jack Nicklaus, I didn't think we'd see another Golden Bear anytime soon.
 
He's a golfer, BDM - he's never going to have that much personality. Seve & John Daly have personality.
 
I rank Woods as one of the best if not the best, and his inconsistencies and ideosyncracies really just underpin that opinion.

Even the very best golfers only make $2M-$3M a year in prize earnings. The rest come from endorsements. For example, Tiger made $89.4M in 2004. Of that, only $4.5M was tournament earnings.

As far as American sports go, I think the most overpaid award goes to baseball players. They stand there 95% of the time.

At least basketball players run up and down the court, and American football players always run the risk of extreme injury.
