TJ Olsen, son of former Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen, says 'thank you' for support following heart transplant

The son of retired Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen on Monday gave a touching thanks from his hospital bed to all those who have supported him during his heart transplant. "Hi everybody,'' 8-year-old TJ Olsen said in a 12-second video posted by his father on social media. "Thank you for thinking of me. Thank you for praying with me. We love you guys, bye.'' TJ got his new heart on Friday, eight days after going on the transplant list and two weeks after entering the hospital with his failing heart. His father has given updates throughout the process, saying over the weekend doctors were able to close TJ's chest and "all early signs have been positive.'' With each message the three-time Pro Bowl selection has provided pictures and personal insight on what TJ and his family have gone through, reminding constantly that TJ "is a fighter.''

Gonzaga Bulldogs signee Chet Holmgren named Gatorade National Player of the Year

Gonzaga signee Chet Homgren, the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 ESPN 100 class, is the 2020-2021 Gatorade National Player of the Year, the sports drink company announced on Wednesday. The 7-footer averaged 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.7 blocks and 4.4 assists last season for Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With Holmgren, Gonzaga could enter next season as the favorite to win the national title a year after finishing as the runner-up to Baylor in April. Drew Timme, who recently announced his return, could be the consensus preseason national player of the year. And Holmgren is a projected top-three pick in ESPN's latest 2022 NBA mock draft.

Women's college basketball: Top 25 players for 2021-22

Kim Mulkey has moved on, but NaLyssa Smith remains at Baylor and the senior forward leads the way in ESPN's first women's college basketball player rankings for the 2021-22 season. Smith, who won the Wade Trophy last season as UConn's Paige Bueckers swept the other major national player of the year awards, helped lead Baylor to the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles and an Elite Eight appearance. Fresh off winning the 2020-21 national championship earlier this month, Stanford has two players on the list, including Final Four Most Outstanding Player Haley Jones, who checks in at No. 5. But South Carolina and UConn each put three players in the top 25. Bueckers is third, behind Gamecocks junior Aliyah Boston. Six different conferences are represented in our top 10.

College Football Playoff will consider proposal for expanding to 12-team format
The proposal, which was written by a subcommittee comprised of Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson, was presented to the entire group of FBS commissioners Thursday morning.
