New marketing code will prohibit college betting partnerships​


The U.S. gambling industry is adopting a new responsible marketing code that will ban sportsbooks from partnering with colleges to promote sports wagering, bar payments to college and amateur athletes for using their name, image or likeness, and end the use of the terms "free" or "risk-free" to
describe promotional bets. The American Gaming Association told The Associated Press on Tuesday the changes are necessary to keep up with developments in the fast-growing legal sports betting industry, which currently operates in 33 states plus Washington, D.C. The group is the national trade association for the commercial gambling industry.

Sources: Oleksandr Usyk-Tyson Fury fight in jeopardy as talks stall​


The proposed undisputed heavyweight championship fight next month between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury at Wembley Stadium in London is in jeopardy as the fighters continue to haggle over deal points beyond the 70-30 split in favor of Fury for the net revenue, sources told ESPN. Usyk has shut down his training camp, according to sources, and will regroup with his team to plot his next fight. The 36-year-old Ukrainian holds the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles while Fury is the WBC champion.

Fury labels Usyk a coward
The WBA is poised to order a fight between Usyk and Daniel Dubois, with the Englishman up first in the rotation system used for boxing's unified champions unless a last-ditch effort can be made to save the bout against Fury.
 

Wimbledon drops ban on Russians, lets them play as neutrals​


Russian and Belarusian players will be able to compete at Wimbledon as neutral athletes after the All England Club on Friday reversed its ban from
last year. The players must sign declarations of neutrality and comply with "appropriate conditions," including not expressing support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "This was an incredibly difficult decision, not taken lightly or without a great deal of consideration for those who will be impacted," All England Club chairman Ian Hewitt said in a statement. Other tennis tournaments have allowed Russian and Belarusian players to compete as neutral athletes -- their nationalities are not listed in the brackets, official results or graphics on TV broadcasts of matches. But, as in some other team sports, Russia and Belarus were not permitted to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup or Davis Cup by the International Tennis Federation.

Anthony Pettis bests Roy Jones Jr. by majority decision​


In his first fight in more than three years, boxing Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr. was defeated by former UFC champion Anthony Pettis by majority decision on Saturday night in Milwaukee. Two judges scored the bout 77-75 and 78-74 for Pettis, while a third judge scored it a 76-76 draw.
