Get and use some firewall, and antivirus, and antispyware,

and these free ones here are good, they are much better

than having no PC protection at all, so you surf safe

by downloading and installing useful programs.

And run them and use immunize (Spybot S&D)

and enable all protection (Spyware Blaster),

no one product gets everything so using

several antispyware, or at least a few, is

always better than one of them alone.


Update them and run them often.




Also it is recommended to perform

regular (frequent) hard disk drive

defrags (to defragment), and also

"scandisk(s)" (older), or checkdisk(s)

(CHKDSK), both of which are within

Windows to use for PC maintenance.


And update your Windows based PC

often and check regularly for updates

The Ad-Aware is a new version released recently,
so Ad-Aware SE Personal is no longer the current version.

The newest (free) version now available is Ad-Aware 2007 (Free).

There are other variants of course, as paid versions, but a new
release is available now, for almost a month or so now. Ad-Aware 2007

I have used all of these I recommend here.

I don't recommend anything unless I used it myself.

I have found some fake / rogue antispyware that does install spyware.

These are not those in my experience, all of these I named are genuine / not rogue.


anther one to get though a bit long of tooth is
Bitdefender 8 Free Edition (old)
stand alone, on demand, antivirus
which does not interfere with any installed antivirus

Its decent though I've found using the standard Defender service from M$ and a bi-weekly running of Spybot keeps me running in tip-top shape.

NoScript is a pain in the ass,
it blocks more than you want it too,
and makes a lot of sites much less functional,
it's an overkill paranoid measure, and I have
used it before myself, I wish it were useful
AND not too limiting on making sites of value,
as it is, when I used it, it was too limiting.
