I'm a couple of minutes from the end of the first episode... the fact that I'm writing this while it's on in the background says it all, really.
It looks like it's trying to be the new Spartacus, but it's way too dumb. I kind of guessed that all the Italians would be British, but da Vinci isn't at all how I imagine him to be and his inventions are preposterous! Why bother making it about him if you're going to turn him into a straight, British guy with designer stubble and the ability to design mechanical birds that can fly better than the best 21st century robots?
Having said that, I can see potential for it to get better as it goes along, so long as they don't have too much of the double crossing and maneuvering. The twist at the end was so obvious that I'm not sure if it was meant to be a twist.
Oh, and less old naked men, please. Recognising Hugh Bonneville from his naked backside wasn't a skill I needed to discover I possessed.
The only big plus point for me was the visuals, which were outstanding. They must've spent a hell of a lot of time and money on those models of Florence.
