There have been plenty of threads go past that amount without the use of merge tools. Of course, they've nearly all been spam threads, but that's beside the point!

yep. I agree, Kitty. All it takes is a some dedicated Blers, a few MFers with some time on their hands, and Gagh.
 
In fact, I think Gagh alone would be capable of upping it to 1000 in less than a few hrs if given the right incentive...
 
Gagh's not the only one. I've spammed a thread or two well past the 1000 mark. That said... I'm running away.
