my keyboard has finally snuffed it.

Be patient till the last.
The numbers/symbols keys will no longer work.

Farewell, Dell,
You served me well.

inspite of all the tea and coffee I kept spilling on you.

now it's time for the big e [insert hyphen]dumpster in the sky.

ok, not actually in the sky...more up the highway at the Restore Store.

but that's not very poetic.

Set it on fire.

give it the old Viking send-off eh? (oh, sure, NOW the hyphen works!)

except that burning plastics is not good for the environment.

but otherwise a very showy send-off Dr Dave!

I fail to see how that's a problem.

If you're shopping for a new one, don't buy another Dell. They have publicly stated that they are slowly getting out of the personal PC business and focusing on business solutions, so little consumers like you and me no longer mean squat to them.

It's a pity, because my last 3 machines have been Dells, and they've worked like champs. Sigh.

I know, mine's ancient and up until last week no worries.

Replacing a laptop keyboard is easier than you'd think, and you can generally get a replacement specific to your model for under $25 on ebay.

I should know, I'm an expert on spilling gins and tonics on expensive electronics.
