I was discriminated against based on the color of my skin for government employment.

The San Jose Police Department sent me a written rejection letter that stated the department appreciated my application but was only considering black female applicants at the time.

Being the early 80s - the height of the "quota era" before it was struck down as unconstitutional - I did the only thing I could in my discriminated impotence: I crumpled the letter in caucasian anger and threw it away.

You know how dearly I wish now that I hadn't?
