I reloaded the 1.0.7 upgrade (which worked flawlessly for me) to overwrite the 1.5 upgrade, and things are fine again.

I'm looking into external hard drives.
You might also (of course) look into compressing any nonessential files into an organized system, then doing a disk cleanup followed by a good, deep-tissue, full-body Swedish defrag.

I use a cable modem at home. Will this upgrade make even a cable modem faster? It currently takes about 1 day for me to d/l four simultaneous 1-hour television episodes.

Well, it only affects Firefox (it changes some of the settings Firefox uses for caching and displaying web content.) However, if you're using a router, there are some changes you need to make in order to get torrents downloading faster. Access your router's Administration utility, then go to the Port Forwarding section (for a Linksys 4-port Ethernet/2-port telephone broadband router like mine, that's under the "Games & Applications" header.) Set the starting port as 6881 and the ending port as 6990. You should have a drop-down box for TCP, UDP or Both. Alternatively, you may have checkboxes for TCP or UDP. Either way, select both, then check "Enable", then save your settings. Use those same settings on any firewall you may be using, and you should see torrent speeds triple at least.

Ummm...I have a cable modem that plugs directly into a USB port on my computer. I don't think I have a router. How can I tell??
Well, if you had a router, you'd know it. 
Mine looks a little like this:
A router basically lets you connect multiple devices to your modem. Right now, I have two -- the first one has my phone, my computer and my wireless router connected to it. My disabled DHCP on my wireless router in order to use it as a simple wireless access point.

My friend/Mac consultant found 3.5 gigs for me. I was literally down to zero kb. He advised me not to add anything else, because the machine needs a little breathing room to operate.The Question said:

^ For what it's worth, you've got plenty of space left to install Firefox. It only takes up 15-20MB. Congrats on the incoming 400GB, though.
As for the extension, it's pretty sweet but my line speed is fast enough to not really need it. I can see how it'd be nice on dialup maybe.

I just got the faster fox. And it is. good grief, Friday. How big is your HD? I had a record library, 2000 photos, 10 videos plus mozilla, thunderbird, firefox, opera, with 29 gigs to spare on a 40 gigger.
