Do you think the other Simpsons voice actors..

Hate Yeardley Smith?

I mean she gets the same money as them who do multiple voices, for doing just one voice.

They should get paid per character, that would show her.

They should actually go through with the threat and cancel it this time. Every few years we get this story about actors wanting more money and threats to replace them, but they never come to shit.

Its win win for the network, if they cancel the show they keep on making money by constantly repeating the episodes already made, and if they dont then they get to pay the actors less money.

But seriously, as much as I like the people doing the voices, in this current recession, if they cant get out of bed and do some talking into a mike for 200,000 dollars an episode, then they need to just fuck off.

But they can't ignore the market they are in. Even though they are voice actors, they are largely irreplaceable (they could find sound-alikes, but the fans would bolt). They helped build an empire that is the cornerstone of a major studio's profitability, and yet after 22 years they are still only receiving a salary, and no cut of the billions in residuals and merchandising that use their voices.

It sounds like they're being greedy, and compared to a ditch digger they are, but considering they helped make more money for Fox than Titanic did, there's room for a little perspective.

NO don't you understand Eggs! Voice acting is easy! WHY DON'T THEY DO IT FOR FREE??? ASSHOLES.

Think of poor Rupert Merdoch... Now he will only be able to buy a small private island instead of a large one because of those mean, mean, voice actors.

Cuntscrapes.

I agree it seems greedy when they must have amassed a lot of money by now, but they've made Fox a hell of a lot more over the years, so it's not unreasonable for them to want a more representative share. Still, I think it would be for the best if it was cancelled now. I don't know what Yeardly Smith would do, but all the others can have roles in other shows without sounding exactly like a Simpson.

They are voice actors working for FOX, they could be set up for life adding new lines to the constant star wars revisions.

Next bluray version of ROTJ, when Luke is being fried, Vader no longer shouts "nooooo!", but "D'oh!"

I just want them to stop making it before it's down to only 20% good episodes.

I think this impasse has more chance of causing cancellation than any of the others. They are simply on too much money, but then seeing as this is Murdoch's filthy lucre, I don't blame them for taking it off of him.

Well I read somewhere today its been renewed for another two years taking it to 25 years and over 550 episodes, I reckon if they are going to end it at any point, its the 25 year point.

The actors still did not get any residuals, but the studio compromised on the pay cut from 45% to ~30%. Also the licensing fee to Fox network was reduced, since ratings, while still relatively good, aren't what they used to be (which is true of every broadcast TV show thanks to cable and the Intertubes).

Disco Stu likes disco music.

Do ratings still mean anything? Surely merchandising and residuals on DVD sales are worth more nowadays? Having heard of movies that have done fuck all at the box office, but turned over a very healthy profit on DVD, I would presume a similar model would exist on TV.

Ratings still matter, because while the studios and networks can make serious bank off some shows on the back end, it's still the back end, which means delayed returns. They still make the upfront money from commercial ad rates, even on basic cable since they have commercials too. Until the studios and networks figure out a way to make upfront money from a source other than broadcast TV, they are sticking with the old model for the time being.

Also, while a show like The Simpsons has made billions front and back, it struck lightning in a bottle. Many shows aren't popular enough see that kind of perennial return in syndication, DVDs and digital back end.

A classic, pedigreed show like Hill Street Blues isn't even available on DVD, because the first two season boxes didn't sell well enough and the distributor gave up. They've just been sitting on the other 5 seasons until they can figure out a more profitable way to release it all. You can only see 3 seasons of it on Hulu.
