Marx was too optimistic about human nature. Rand was too pessimistic.

Marx was too optimistic about human nature. Rand was too pessimistic.

A guy I knew on Discord called them "two sides of the same nutcase".

lmao, no they aren't. Go read Marx, he can be insightful and funny (and right which is why they don't expose kids to his writings). Halfway between "maybe workers should own the means of producing shit together instead of funneling most of the proceeds of their labor up a handful of rich people's assholes" and "Fuck you, got mine! This is the best of all possible worlds!" isn't an inherently reasonable position, no matter how much slickly produced liberal media likes to claim otherwise.

I've read some of Marx. The problem with him isn't with his diagnosis of rich assholes (when it came to them and the problems they cause, he was spot on), but that the solutions he offers are completely detached from reality - something even other socialists in the 19th century pointed out, especially Mikhail Bakhunin. For fuck's sake, the guy was a drunken leech who mooched off of Engels. Not to mention that his idea of a stateless, classless, moneyless society would only be feasible with post-scarcity tech, and he completely ignores the fact that every life-form that has ever lived only spends energy on actions if there is incentive to.

The solutions he offers sound beautiful... but completely fall apart the moment you actually factor in psychology and biology.

Back on topic, I actually went over there to post the Zillow listing for the home I just sold...but when I got to the relevant thread I realized what an absolute shit-show it was and just left.

They spend every day smelling their own farts. Ten Lubak pretends to be one of them because he doesn't want to be attacked. He has no real principles, he just goes which ever way the wind blows. He calls me partisan, yet completely ignores all of the other partisan hacks over there, excluding Diacanu. They focus on algae in the reflection while totally ignoring the truth bombs Tulsi Gabbard dropped about Fauci, grooming from the left or anything negative from the Democratic party. Kier Starmer is resigning, no mention of why. They're delusional and still don't understand why Democrats have the lowest poll numbers.

Are you unaware of how pathetic you sound or is self-flagellation your kink that you are subjecting all of us to without consent?

This is the sixth time in this thread alone that you have made a post that solely consists of an admission to your obsession with WF but then openly admitting you are too much of a coward to even make a post.

SIX TIMES!

For even one of those admission you couldn’t waterboard that level of fail out of me.

And you are just REPEATEDLY posting it out on Main.

LOL!

Fun fact: I have never clicked "Show ignored content" here and said to myself "Damn! I need to fix this! I'm missing important, intelligent information!!!" :diacanu:

You are literally doing the thing I just made fun of you for doing.

If you really don’t care about something or something you can just… ignore them or it.

By constantly making posts you are just admitting how much you do actually care and how you can’t stop yourself from reacting.

As I said…

PATHETIC.

Sorry. You lose. :)
(I'm not sorry. :) )

I mean, I'm sure if you asked nicely, with a sincere please and thank you, your pw could be scrambled over there 🤷

They have a zillow thread? Why would that be a shit show?

Nah. I started a thread on building wealth through real estate investing when I bought my final long term rental. Long story short, rental properties are way too much risk for way too little reward so I'm getting out. At first it stayed more or less on topic--that I am probably a slumlord, etc--but of course it eventually turned into property is theft, capitalism is evil, and free housing should be a basic human right; how once the mortgage is paid off the landlord just gets all the rent money. And we won't even go into why would there be anything wrong with that, it ignores taxes, insurance, management costs, legal fees, contracting for plumbing, electrical, etc.

What kind of rentals did you own? I've vacationed at the same Vrbo rental 4 years in a row now and I've thought I should really get in that game. I think it was their grandparents cabin they rent out now. Which I can't do anymore since I foolish sold off my grandparents house in the mountains right before house values skyrocketed.

Boring single family long term homes. The problem with real estate investing is, things have changed in the last 20-40 years. Most of the books were written back then and what was a safe bet then is no longer a sure thing. I know someone who had great renters and an 800+ credit score...who eventually went to shit and wound up doing $14K of damage to the house they were renting before skipping out. The way prices are climbing for everything, if you can get 7% in the stock market (which you can basically do if you're dead) it is, IMO better money than owning real estate that you rent out.

Short term is tricky because of government. Churchill Downs is in a less than nice part of Louisville. When I first started out, the plan was to pick up places around there for $10-15K (that's not a typo), AirBnB them for Derby, and be fat, dumb, and happy. But it turns out it's very hard to do AirBnB's in that neighborhood because of Metro Government rules. There's a neighborhood called... St. James?... Like the biggest collection of Victorian mansions in the USA (or something like that). I've got a friend who does AirBnB's and I mentioned I'd love to get a big old Victorian that's already been carved up into apartments, live in the shittiest one and AirBnB the rest and whe was like "Yeah...you can't have an AirBnB in St. James. It's illegal." FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY?! People would love to have a short term rental there. I'd love to live in a short term rental I owned there. Everyone wins. But the elected politicians have decided it is Bad. So, no.

If/when I've finally gotten out of rentals, I have not ruled out doing a few flips. I'm getting old enough that renovations are not as much fun as they were 15-20 years ago, and it's harder and harder to find properties for sale at the right price for the amount of work they need, but when it all lines up I can make some nice money on them. And then I don't find myself sitting in a driveway, cursing as pavement comes up with the weeds I'm pulling because the renters didn't stay on top of the weeding I did 6 years ago. Or ordering new knobs for the stove because there was so much grease on the old ones that all the chrome flaked off, trying to get them clean.

It's trippy, because you get a place back and you feel bad that you rented it to someone because it is such a dump. And then you realize it was nice when you rented it but the renter turned it into a dump. Then you try to understand why someone would want to live in a dump. And moreso, if someone wants to live in a dump, why not just rent a dump and save a bunch of money instead of renting something nice and then letting it become a dump.

It takes a special sort of dumb to fuck up real estate investing. Did you replace your tenants' water supply with bleach or something?
