I TiVO'd the first two episodes, and watched the 2-hour premiere last night. It was OK, but my chief complaint is that it was a little boring. I mean, 30 minutes into the show before any action!
Also, the text at the opening of the show should have been a voice-over; perhaps the tour guide who was leading the group through Galactica.
I like the fact that Galactica was being de-commissioned, and that it was a museum; it allows the creators to have nice nods to the old series (outdated computers, old-style vipers) without being preposterous. The stuff is dated for a reason.
I also like the fact that we don't get to see the rest of the fleet being destroyed. Look, the producers certainly couldn't spend the money to show an epic space battle, I understand that. But rather than seeming "cheap", it seems as though we are right there on the Galactica, absorbing all this loss and confusion right along with them. Nice.
Of course, the evolution of the Cylons is cool, and Six is definitely a stunner, if a bit derivative of that other Pneumatic Space Hottie, Seven. I could have done without the cyclon fighters having the cheesy "Knight Rider" red light.
I think the show will work best as a mini-series. I don't know if the dramatic tension can be sustained for 22 episodes.
I'll watch the second episode tonight, and I'll post my thoughts in this thread, although I suspect that I am the only one here who watched the show!
